Spain vs Portugal

I like the look of this Portuguese keeper actually, he has been pretty consistent all tournament, i'd never even heard of him before the World Cup.

Portugal were rubbish, have been this poor the whole world cup (other than putting Korea DPR away). Eduardo kept the score down to 1.

I thought I saw Ronaldo shaking hands? Could be wrong.

Exactly this. I thought him and Carvalho at the back were stand outs for Portugal. The rest, especially the attacking/creative players, were utter tripe.

Damn, I can see Spain (or Argentina) going on and winning it from here.  What a waste of a world cup that would be - Germany are the last great hope.

I'll only give a small bite here. It's not a waste of a World Cup just because the team you prefer doesn't win it. Just deal with it.  No, not at all - but if it's a team I hate then it is.

I can see you being one of those types who will find it really difficult to congratulate whoever wins it if they aren't to you liking, or perhaps not even congratulate them at all.  If it's a team I can't stand then I won't congratulate them or if I do it'll be very reluctantly indeed.  Not that it matters to them if I do or not anyway, I'd doubt they'd lose sleep over it - one or two maybe, but probably not most.  I just really dislike Spain for all the unprecedented band-wagonning that's occurred with them since Euro and I've never really liked Argentina either.  Wouldn't mind seeing Paraguay or Uruguay take it out but I think Germany is a better chance and I like them more (and think �zil is fantastic) so am supporting them.  Each to their own I guess.

So if Germany and Paraguay go out on Sunday morning (good chance tbf) will you stop watching the tournament?

Also it's important to remain gracious and dignified in victory or defeat, otherwise you'll cop more stick and probably won't be taken very seriously.

Uruguay are presently playing very good football. And their lead offensive player was deemed not good enough for England's 'celebrity'  club. Which is another example of how the spend to win motto of that club has seriously undermined all football in England. For forty years it could be argued that while Uruguay suffered under the yoke of neo-Nazi Generals their football turned into the actuality of these policies. Cyncial, cheating, kicking, spitting, a near nihilism. Now as England wakes up to 30 years of far-right , free market, quasi fascist governance their football side too best represents what these polices do for the visualization of the national psyche. Individiualized, collectivally out-fought, lack of both creation and intellect, the inability to 'ad-lib' sees England become what it used to pity of others."well they are so passionate about their  football because they have nothing else"

Uruguay have performed admirably this tournament. I think it is a huge improvement on their team of say 1990 and the '86 squad was pretty shameful. Credit where Credit is due, etc.

I disagree. Not as bad as the 1986 and 1990 sides, but still immensely cynical. Ther performance have been largely opportunistic rather than admirable as far as I'm concerned.

It was more the sensationalism in the post that got me rather than the idea behind the words. You could of illustrated your point far better.

And i really don't see the problem in suggesting fans should be gracious in defeat. In fact i thought you more than most would be with me on that.

OK. Who has not been cynical at this World Cup then. maybe Nth Korea and Nigeria but then pundits describe them as 'naive' or 'tactically shortsighted'.
