Spanish choking again? Hope not.

Ridiculous how they couldn't score given all the attacking play they had though.

Gee that sucks. Goal difference will quite possibly be crucial in this group now. I hope Switzerland don't bloomin' qualify. Chile and Spain are way better. They could well all end up on 6 points...

Switzerland are very underrated. They are a well organised and disciplined side who's key strengths are having a strong back four. This is backed up by the fact they have kept 5 consecutive clean sheets in World Cup finals matches. On their day they can cause any team trouble.

Hopp Suisse.

Three for me, and two for them.

Yep, they're a fantastic side. Only the mighty Luxembourg could get the better of them in qaulifying.

Seriously, they're pretty average. Like Slovakia and Slovenia, they're beneficiaries of an incredibly weak qualifying group. Good on them for getting the result this morning, but let's keep things in perspective.

Flash in the pan.

EG the reason i admire them is that they stick to their guns, play to their strengths, and make the most out of the ability they do have.

Not every side has to look phenomenal going forward to be good.

Three for me, and two for them.

So does everyone else - that doesn't make every team good, does it? They are a pedestrian, average side that got a good, and somewhat lucky win against favoured opposition. Happens in football, but like I said, let's not get overexcited here. I've seen quite a bit of this Swiss side - average.

Apologies EG, i'll remember to ask for your permission first before i get excited about a teams performance in the future. Buffon II2010-06-17 13:45:18

They're an organised side whose plan to defend and hopefully snatch a goal was played to perfection. "Smash and grab" performance, no?

Played well in the first half, without scoring, but as soon as we conceded you knew that was it. Villa was awful in the first half. I get so sick of Ramos too.

Problems for Spain are set pieces, the way their heads drop as soon as they concede and Sergio Ramos. Need to sharpen up a lot more before the next game. On a plus note, Alonso was awesome, Xavi and Iniesta were great. Puyol and Pique looked solid for most of the game... Onwards and upwards. Vamos! Everybody is saying mean things about Spain

It does not matter if thay are a good side or not. They got the 3 points and for them that is all that matters.

Wouldn't be surprised if Spain, with goal difference in mind, go out and give Honduras a fair old pummeling. Honduras were woeful last night and lucky not to lose by 4 or 5 to Chile.

Also, haven't Spain gone some staggering number of games without defeat? Maybe a loss here gives them a chance to wipe the slate clean and build form and momentum into the knockout stage.

For all those who doubted this was a 'team'; you are wrong. I have been saying, this is a team in the truest sense of the world, compared to other Spanish teams of the past. The talent is there, sure, but also it is not about Barcelona or Real Madrid, but about the country, about Spain. This is why we are champions. Vamos!!

I take back everything i've previously said about not perving at the players cause it makes watching the games messy. having been up all night watching the tour'd'france (&how exciting was that) I was riveted watching  Jesus Navas who both played well and set my heart all aflutter

Yeah, he can be a really important player. When he came on earlier, as you say, he was so disappointing. But he is skillful and quick (so skinny though!) and offers us some width other than Ramos.

actually while watching yesterdays game it seemed like the Nethrlands were playing a high school team as so many of the spanish players seemed smaller in height and the dutch looked like burly giants playing nimble dwarves

& lol who cares if he's skinny if it contributes to his gorgeous johnny depp type cheekbones

You might be right, but a 100000 people turned out in Barcelona on the weekend to demand inderpendence from Spain.

Not so much independece as in protest over a Supreme Court decision which declared the official designation of Catalunya as a nation as illegal (arguing that only Spain itself can hold that status).

Yeah, but when I say its not "Real Madrid vs Barcelona" I meant in terms of the players. Because I'm sure you've heard the stories of the past where there are big differences in the camp- the Barca players sit together for meals, put in big tackles on the Madridistas etc. Football can unite. Plus, I was a little drunk still
