With calss from Casillas to Villa they must start as one of the favourites; although it is difficult to back them too much given thier England-like records at tournaments like these. With Torres spending half the season out for Liverpool, he should be peaking nicely for the World Cup, too...

Although he doesn't tend to work too well with Villa- who suits the Spanish style much better. Big pick in the midifield too, with Cesc, Xabi, Xavi, Iniesta and even Senna worthy of a place.

Whatever the team, they have to hope to do better than the Confederations Cup- which means getting rid of that idiot Sergio Ramos!

Torres = out of sorts like liverpool (incoming debate)
David villa = class

Torres > Villa. Torres is class. He is the best striker in the world. You could see in the Euro's, once they put Fabregas behind him, rather than alongside Villa, he started to play. Villa is a more "Spanish striker", whereas Torres is a classic English centre-forward.

fair point i think if a premier league club pics up villa then he would get even more amazing

Potentially. Small, skillful little player. Very technically gifted. Will play a large part in the national side's hopes.

youre talking about villa right could look good at somewhere like arsenal if they are willing to fork out the money

Yip. Yeah, I guess so. He's getting old now......

Give me Torres, anyday. Valencia are in big struggle so they'd ask for a lot, but it'd be possible to get him away. He's happy in Spain though. I reckon he'd get pushed around a bit in the Prem.

or he could terrorise defences and really boost arsenal but not against the solid back four of chelsea then hed get pushed around

Shawcross would absolutely maul him!

But seriously, I think he'll do better than Torres at the WC. Unless Spain play a faster game. Too slow and labourous!

If Spain have everyone fit and ready for the WC, they'll be number 1 favourites.

Fantastic side that plays a truly beautiful game.

Sergio Ramos. I'm actually not joking (although obviously biased). And Alonso's lack of defensive ability.

Why couldn't they have had "one of those days" against us???
Portugal will knock them out in the quarters.

Villa > Torres. Look at their international records

Look at the way the Spanish play. It suits Villa so much more. 33 goals in 34 games at Anfield is spectacular. If they wanted to win the Confed Cup, they would've built their side around Torres.

Tiago, Nani, Deco and Quaresma will score in a 4-3 win.

Are you watching the game? This will stay 0-0 if they keep playing until Xmas.

This is a quiet thread cos most people actually like Spain....

Yea. Never come across many Spain haters. They are more up to it now than other promising teams they have had in the past. We saw that in the EUROs.

No it is just we are not childish and go around every other thread spreading hate and trolling.

But this is too quiet so I'd rather go to other threads; albeit to actually have conversations.

...Puyol and Marchena aren't that tall, weakness maybe... and Albiol isn't that good.

Yeah. Spanish set piece, both attacking and defending, is generally pretty poor. But Pique is a f**king monster!

and we have Cesc. Cesc is the shiznitz. Ahhhhhhhhh Spain, how I wish I was spanish. I'd be better at football, at woman, and at looking pretty.

. Well, it hasn't helped me much. Mind you, I suspect the Irish in me is far more responsible. Shane MacGowan, anyone?

Puyol and Pique were immense in El Clasico today, as well as Xavi and Iniesta bossing the place. Alonso and Albiol didn't look so flash, Raul barely got any time, with Casillas its naturally a given that he plays well. Arbeloa didn't do very well. Ramos looked okay, although it wasn't a natural game from him. Good signs for the Spaniards... Top performances from some key players.

Yea but could they do the old All blacks and play really well before then choke?
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Didn't choke at the Euro, but they did set out to win the Confeds Cup and that didn't go quite as planned.

Yea thats what im meaning have a really good build up. Peaking too early and then failing at WC
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Maybe. Mind you, they'll have a peaking Fernando Torres cos he'll be out half the season and come right for the World Cup.

Gotta be happy with that group! Nobody should be able to match us at all. Fully expect to power through this group. We could play our second team and we'd make it. Still, wouldn't want to take any risks and its a shame that we won't get a real test especially in the group. Oh well. Viva Espana!

Best draw of the seeds for Spain I reckon. For me this is the most straightforward to predict: Spain and Chile to go through.

They play each other last game. I wonder what they will do if they both win their first two... have both qualified... and Brazil come second in their group...

Spain should win the group, but think it'll be an almighty scramble for the second.

Can't see it happening, but i think Reina is starting to challenge Casillas for the number 1 jersey.
