NZ Herald are looking for someone in Auckland to talk to about this - anyone keen? Requires a photo shoot also. And needs to be in the next couple of hours...

1 in 5,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 chance of winning it.

Giving each option even odds. 0.33 for each group match and 0.5 for each knockout game.

Of course it is a free competition why not give it a shot.

I came out with Portugal winning. Cue banter and disagreements

The 5 most accurate predictions also win $1k each too, so it's not like it's all or nothing

It keeps telling me I can't proceed because I haven't made all the picks for the group stage but I have made all the picks for the group stage. WTF?

Edit: sorted it now.

I bet almost 95% of entries would have been lost at the first hurdle had Croatia held on for the draw!

I have a feeling I might have been one of the 5% to take a wild punt on the first game.  Well, that was fun.

Edit: Went backed and checked.  Did take Brazil, must have been some drunken idea that I never followed through on (not for the first time). Still part of the 26,000

I know, I know, its serious!

By this time tomorrow?

I'm calling it under 3k.

Should be fairly close to the mark.

On the basis of a 50% attrition rate on average (today's was not an average game), then 12.5% will survive a 3-game day - and there's a couple of real toughies to pick tomorrow.

1,107 left.

Which represents, on average, a 57.4% attrition rate per game - ie, only 42.6% of entries stay live on average per match.

On this basis, we'll be down to 36 by the end of play tomorrow, and just 3 by the end of Monday, and just one live after Germany v Portugal.

And then we'll all be rooting for that person to get the remaining 51 matches spot on.

Isn't maths fun kids.

I won't be. Still in for a chance at that consolation prize of getting the most picks right.

Three for me, and two for them.
