ESPN are show a doco called The Two Escobars. Decription of it says its a 'story of the quick rise and fall of Columbia in 1994 as an international force in the world of soccer and of the interwoven fates of a drug lord and a futbol hero, both named Escobar'.

Andrs Escobar is the coloumbiabn footballer who was killed after scoring an OG in the 1994 WC.  Seems to be getting good reviews.

Film Festival eh?  Might be a goer considering the crappy times it is on ESPN.  SK- any idea what the Film Archives is like as a cinema venue?
Edit:  Just realised it is at the same time as the Boca Junior game2ndBest2010-07-09 11:36:02

One quote from this doco that will raise eye brows:

"trying to fix Columbia's drug problem is like trying to fix gonorrhoea by pouring alcohol on your dick"

Fuck this stupid game

lol I'm not touching that one 2ndbest but in answer to your previous query re film fest venue I think the film archive is quite pokey but its slightly better that the te papa & city gallery screening rooms. i'm guessing that the paramount screenings are in their little theatres one of which has those cosy couches for two so pick your film buddy wisely

Saw it on ESPN a couple of days ago - I thought it was amazing. I had no idea that drug money played such a strong role in the rise of Colombian football and that Andrs Escobar was on the verge of a move to Milan when he was shot. It was a really interesting documentary, if you like football and crazy stories about drug lords then this is definitely the documentary to see!

ill back up Chairman Mao - watched it last night. I had mysky'd it and finally got time to see it. Its one of the most amazing movies/docu's Ive ever seen. Its mindblowing to think of the pressure that the Columbian team were under going into the 1994 world cup from back home.

Some good football highlights to, particularly the 5-0 thrashing they handed out to Argentina to qualify. Valderrama at his best was phenominal.

I would recommend it to anyone, its a great watch.

Agreed, I watched this yesterday (it was on just before the A-League games). It is a great watch. A very tragic story as well
