Top 5 teams

Living in NZ and having a team that hasn't graced the world stage in so long I understand that many people have developed a love for many teams.  So my question to all of you is who are the top 5 teams you'll be supporting at this world cup and why.

My picks:
1. New Zealand - My country and I love them.
2. Australia - Have enjoyed seeing football grow there and have come to like a number of their players due to the a-league and last WC appearance.
3. France - Supported them for years.
4. Cote d'Ivoire - Started due to my love for Kolo Toure, but this love has blossomed and now includes the whole team with the exception of Drogba.
5. Serbia - would love to see a Balkan country do quite well at this world cup, even though Vidic is one of the ugliest men alive.

EDIT: Also add the five teams you would love to see fail.
2ndEdit: Denmark take 5th and Serbia go 6th.

1) New Zealand - Don't need to say why
2) England - Family links etc...
3) Australia - Good for this area of the world
4) South Africa - Family links (probably should support them more then Aus...)
5) Netherlands - Like a few of their players, no other reasonwellyphoenixfan2009-11-19 22:37:43

1. England - my country.
2. NZ - where I currently live and well overdue for some proper tournament fun.

After that, it becomes about who I don't want to see do well, but I would like seeing the less glamerous teams have a good run.

New Zealand- Kiwi through and through

Aussie: Supported them last WC, close to home

Nederlands: Have a dutch mate who got me into them, like there style of play

Mexico: Can see them as a dark horse

Ghana: Gota support an african team so why not Chelseas' Micheal Essien

Great answer.

Yeah, top five teams I'd like to see fail are:
1. England - I hate them
2. Italy - I hate them and they beat France in 2006 final
3. Portugal - Following from their great showing at Euro 2000 they've just sunken lower and lower and Ronaldo has epitomised that (the useless git).
4. Netherlands - they dropped Kluivert for the horse (van Nistelrooy), and so many dutch males I know are very arrogant, so would be great to see them fail.
5. South Africa - don't like them, beat us 2-0 in a awful game of football, and those horns are awful.

Are we extending the topic to teams to cheer against? Cool:
1. Argentina - cheats, very bad for football
2. France - cheats, very bad for football
3. Portugal - twice assaulted match officials when they lost, very bad for football
4. Brazil - too many wins, them winning would be like Man Utd winning the Prem (yawn)
5. Germany - similar to Brazil
6. Italy - just don't want to see the same team win twice in a row
7. probably Spain as they've just won Euro2008

True, Argentina suck.

Was hilarious when Jaoa Pinto punched the ref against South Korea.  Portugal had so many chances yet failed so very hard.  If I was under the same circumstances in Euro 2000, though, I would have been sorely tempted to assault the ref as well.  I've looked over that so many times and it was somewhat harsh.

Harsh, but given the officials get one look, a completely understandable call. You fling your arms out in the area, touch the ball and you'll often get called on it, even if you swear you didn't mean it.

Another reason for not wanting Italy - so many times when they go out, it's "FIFA hate us and want us to fail." I hate that knee jerk paranoia.

Agree with regards to the ref.  Have to make a call and stick with it.  If a ref was to change their mind the last team they should do that for would be Portugal - that would only encourage them.

New Zealand and Aussie, wouldnt mind seeing an asian nation do well too.

1. Aotearoa
2. Netherlands - half Dutch so always followed them
3. Aussie - sort of , would love us to do better than them
4. Ivory Coast - hate Drogba, but Kalou, Toure, Toure, etc
5. Chile - Real underdogs and chance to upset. My Mate is Chilean too

France - ancestry.
NZ - obvious.

I also like to see Arsenal players do well, such as when Cesc tore up Euro 08 for Spain.

Despise:

England - love seeing them fail.

I also have a dislike of Italy given recent history between them and France, although this is not on the same level as my feeling for England.

Obviously the only team I'll support is NZ.

But I'd like to see Spain win the whole thing because of their style of football, and would love to see an African side or two make a real impact. Most other teams I'm not too fussed about, and the ones I truly detest are well known so I'm not going to repeat them here...

Want to fail, spectacularly

1. England  (For obvious reasons)
2. Netherlands  (Helped stop Scotland qualifying, although George Burley and the fact that we're sh*te helped more)
3. USA (ESPN, 'Top of the Box'. Need I say more)
4. Uruguay (Historically, a bunch of dirty, cheating animals)
5. France (Mr T. Henry, and the fact I'd rather Ireland had qualified.)

New Zealand
Brazil        Lived there for two years and my partner is from Rio.
Australia  (as long as it doesn't affect NZ's participation
Holland     They deserve alot more than they have got from International football.
Honduras  Cos they are back after 28 years like us and we know how their fans felt!!

Teams I want to see crash and burn

Argentina (it's the Brazilian in me that wanst them to fail dismally)
Italy   (just cos they have 4 world cups and I don't want to see them equal Brazil.
France (even more now that Henry molested their qualification)

Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.

They won in '66.  I figure you know that, maybe I missed something.

Whoever made the 'cheese-eating surrender monkeys' comment is shamelessly taking the glory for that off Dylan Moran.

Love Germany.  Ballack is a walking, breathing penis but the team is still good.  I've never had a problem with their style of play.  In 2002 everyone complained that they played like robots but all the people I knew back then who said that were supporters of teams the Germans had rolled over.

And in Euro 2004 they played some great football.

I could stand Portugal more if they played Nuno Gomes more.  That guy is awesome.

Agree the Nuno is awesome, this will be his last World Cup. Hoping Helder Postiga makes it as well, he's fantastic.

Yeah, that was a fantastic tournament by the Germans.

1-1 opening draw against the Netherlands, followed by an epic 0-0 draw against Latvia, and finally capped off with a 2-1 loss to the Czech side who played their reserve side since they had already qualified for the quarter-finals by then.

Truly memorable performances.

Although in all honesty, the German style of football has been much more attractive in 2006 and 2008, even though I still can't stand Ballack.el grapadura2009-11-20 17:50:15

It would appear that once more my memory is failing me.  I didn't think 2004 was the tournament they lost to the Czechs in.  Shall take your word for it.

Point stands, Germany are a good side to watch and Ballack is a penis etc.

Then I'll follow slash want them to do well
Aussie- Lived there for two years, timmy is a god
England - Sympathise with their epic failings, like some players.

Wouldn't mind seeing Messi carve up as well. Plus no problem with Spain doing well, I love watching them play.

Would love
France
Italy
Netherlands and germany especially to all fail horribly.
