It's the four-yearly football binge on Sky TV and TV One.

Also plenty of pre-tournament friendlies on ESPN and the odd one on Sommet Sports.

SKY TV COVERAGE:

All 64 World Cup games live on Sky Sport.

Sky TV's live broadcast schedule:

http://www.skysport.co.nz/Default.aspx?tabid=286

Only live on new pop-up channel Sky Sport 5 (ch. 55) which is exclusively dedicated to the World Cup.

Build-up to live games begins: 3.20 am, 6.20 am, 7.20 am, 9.20 am

Games live at kick-off times: 4 am, 7 am, 8 am, 10 am

Small number of games at other times.

Plenty of replays in the afternoons and evenings.

Highlights on other Sky Sport channels too.

Meanwhile, the cover of June's Skywatch magazine features an All Blacks logo (wonder how much the Rugby Union paid Sky to have that on the cover?) because the All Blacks are playing three games in June.

Skywatch editorial: "This month our fabulous All Blacks host England...rugby ---blah...blah...

..Overseas it's an awesome month for sport with FIFA 2014 World Cup Brazil, cricket, golf, F1 racing etc."

The cricket people must really live with paper bags over their heads - there is a Blackcaps tour of the West Indies during the World Cup and an England tour of Sri Lanka. Yeah, coverage for those will fare really well internationally against the FIFA World Cup.

TV ONE WORLD CUP COVERAGE:

"The 2014 FIFA World Cup kicks off on Friday 13 June, and with it TVNZ's free-to-air live streaming of the event Ondemand, running simultaneously alongside coverage on TV ONE.

TVNZ has secured the rights to broadcast 22 games of the tournament, including all four quarters, both semis and the culmination of the tournament; the 2014 FIFA World Cup Final.

Football fans will be able to watch the most important games of the Cup wherever and however they prefer. Each match is available online via the website or mobile app at the same time as it airs on TV ONE.

This opportunity to watch free-to-air live coverage both Ondemand and on TV ONE will be supported by TVNZ's daily round up of all games in the tournament, packaged into a highlights programme and presented by none other than six time 'Sports Broadcaster of the Year' winner Martin Devlin. The highlight show itself will air on weekdays at 4.25pm, and weekends at 4.55pm.

Coverage of the tournament begins at 7.45am on Friday 13 June, with the opening match between hosts Brazil and Croatia kicking off at 8.00am."

Full games and highlights shows will be available On Demand.here: http://tvnz.co.nz/video

MORE DETAILS:

Press Release:

As broadcast partners with Sky TV, TVNZ has the rights to screen 22 live games, including the following:

- Opening ceremony at Arena de Sao Paulo, along with the first Group stage match: Brazil vs. Croatia

- Nine other group matches - including all of England’s games

- Four of 16 Round 2 matches

- All Quarter Finals

- Both Semi Finals, plus the 3rd/4th play-off

- World Cup Final, on 14 July

All games on TV ONE will also be screening live on tvnz.co.nz, and afterwards will be available to view OnDemand.

TV ONE will have a daily Round Up show of all the action which will air on weekdays from 4.30 to 5.30pm, and on the weekends from 5.00pm until 6.00pm. This will cover all games in the tournament.

The host for TV ONE's coverage will be announced very soon, alongside a selection of the best local football experts, including former All Whites players.

And the climax of the opening week provides the first sight of Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, as he attempts to light up the iconic Maracana Stadium on Sunday 15 June as Argentina play debutants Bosnia-Herzegovinia (KO 23.00).

Gary Lineker leads the TV team and he will be joined by former England captain Rio Ferdinand, France legend and World Cup winner Thierry Henry, former Dutch international and current AC Milan coach Clarence Seedorf, and Celtic manager and former Northern Ireland midfielder Neil Lennon.

They will work as expert pundits alongside MOTD regulars and former Internationals Alan Hansen, Alan Shearer, Robbie Savage, Danny Murphy and Phil Neville. Savage, Neville and Murphy are also on co-commentary duties with Mark Lawrenson, Martin Keown and Kevin Kilbane.

(1) Most of the recent pre-tournament friendlies are On Demand here for free (full games videos):

http://livefootballvideo.com/fullmatch

 (2) Find plenty of international sports channels streaming free here for pre-tournament and World Cup coverage:

http://tv-online.in/tag/Sports

UK, Italy, Brazil, the whole world - a directory of links for free streams.

(3) All the Sky Sport UK Channels streaming live for free:

http://www.coolsport.tv/skysports1-hd.html

(4) Another option for watching games - Chinese TV streams for free (watch the action even if you don't understand the commentary).

They've had lots of pre-tournament friendlies at NZ friendly times. Repeats today and following days.

Because the Chinese TV stream is territorialy restricted, just install this free software on your computer, click on the icon on the right of your address bar and choose the China option (or in future any country where a website is streaming):

http://hola.org/

(You have the Hola icon on the right of your address bar and simply turn it on with a click whenever you want to access a territorially-restricted site. Then choose which country the site is located - it fools the restricted site into thinking you are in that country. Simply click on the UK option, the Union Jack.)

Coming up later today -

7.30 pm   Brazil v Serbia

10.30m   Spain v El Salvador friendly replay

Tomorrow:

8.30 pm Argentina v Slovenia friendly replay

Other games too.

Broadcast schedule (Chinese times): Use Google Translate (the program schedule will alternate between Chinese and English)

Add four hours for NZ times.

SBS in Australia looks like it has decent coverage multi feed viewing options, with player cam or overhead camera view. not sure if the multi views are available live, but they are on replay, decent picture too streaming at 3450kbps. you need too use hola like Big Pete's options with it set to australia.

I'm enjoying the Sky coverage. Happy not to have to listen to "experts" babbling on about nothing, and the bits before and during the game are good - crowd shots, key highlights etc.

Agree - they have interesting preview shows of the next morning's action etc. as you say.

The commentators (same on Sky and TV One) have all been good - prefer the other ones to John Helm who's a bit long in the tooth.

I find it fine just having the one commentator. Don't need two.

If you have Sky, BBC World ch. 89 have good World Cup news.

Amusing to see them interviewing a Kiwi fan in Brazil on their World Cup news show on Saturday.

Might have been someone known on these forums even!

First major stuff-up by Sky TV yesterday when they started broadcasting the wrong game at 5.50 pm (exactly when people were home from work) - instead of showing the scheduled Argentina v Bosnia replay, they started repeating the France v Honduras game which they had just finished playing.

I had just watched the France game and so realised very quickly when they started repeating it again that it was an almighty stuff-up.

I phoned Sky and they stopped the repeat broadcast of the France game five minutes later and started the correct Argentina game....

(I probably wasn't the only one phoning them)

Don't know of any NZ stations broadcasting any games  - only updates on Radio Sport?

The only option for live radio commentary would be foreign radio on the internet. Can listen on a smart phone or any device

Good for a sneaky listen at work.

Install this free software so you can listen to BBC radio in NZ (otherwise it's restricted to the UK):

For different devices:

http://hola.org/download?list=1

You then click on the "Hola" icon on your address bar and chose the UK option (if it hasn't already automatically detected it for you)

BBC Radio 5 broadcasts games live - daily schedule (click on "Listen" to listen):

http://www.bbc.co.uk/5live/programmes/schedules#on...

Or make sure you have the UK option selected on "Hola" and go direct to the BBC radio player:

For another option without having to worry about getting around geo-blocking, you can listen to British Talksport anywhere in the world. If you have a smartphone and have data, they have apps for Android and Apple. I'm on Windows and although there's no official Windows app, I can still get it through other general radio apps (TuneIn Radio being the one that works for me currently). Often listen to the talkback on the bus to and from work.

Ok. But some of  us like to receive incisive and accurate information - like which of Rooney's testicles has Suarez just bitten off: left or right? And has Suarez swallowed it? And do any of Rooney's team mates seem to care?

Thier apps are geoblocked for the world cup games much to my frustration

Tried TuneIn?

People! Just relax and enjoy the fun of it all

Glad you're not doing commentary!

I just don't care that much about the commentary. I've got a big telly and I can see what's going on, and I like watching the football without having to worry much about who wins.

Ok. But some of  us like to receive incisive and accurate information - like which of Rooney's testicles has Suarez just bitten off: left or right? And has Suarez swallowed it? And do any of Rooney's team mates seem to care?

Do you not get enough bollocks on this forum? :)
