Looking for good pubs in the city to watch the world cup in please. Particularly somewhere I can have a good breakfast, watch the game(s) and then continue to drink throughout the day!

Now, if we could do these early 7am pub shows in Christchurch, I would even brave the morning frost to get there.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to watch the world cup at home?

I don't want to get Sky TV unless you can get it for only a month.

Will any of the internet services show it?

Some games live on TV One.

Surprised fifa hasn't set up an Internet service. Must be too much money in selling the rights. I think all games are live on free to air tv over here

Does anyone know of anywhere in West Auckland where the games might be shown? Haven't found anywhere yet but I'm keen to see some of the games that aren't being shown on TV One. Cheers!

I'm guessing the fact they start so early makes it tough. 4am start...?

Bars will need special licenses for the 4 am starts which is crap, but should be at least one in each city.

Yes, I've already resigned myself to probably missing the 4am games, but there are still plenty of 7am, 8am, and 10am games that are not being shown on free-to-air TV that I'd love to watch. A bar or two open for these games, serving coffee and breakfast, seems like a good business idea to me.

CHRISTCHURCH - PEGASUS ARMS 14 Oxford Terrace, Central City

I'm impressed they have a schedule of all matches they are screening online:

http://pegasus-arms.com/fifa-world-cup-games/

Are screening some at 4 am even!

Note all games are free but you need to ask for a ticket to some games by emailing: football@pegasus-arms

Tickets maybe because the expat communities are  coming to watch those games?

Games every match day - sometimes two games

All second round, all quarters, both semis are listed - and I guess the Final (not listed)

CARLTON - cnr Bealey and Papanui

Are showing games. Contact them at  355 9543  for details. Or on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/CarltonCHCH

They tell me they will be posting details on their Facebook page soon.

"The Carlton will be showing the action on their seven big screens. They serve as a bar and eatery and have a rich history that goes back 150 years, bringing back memories of the early days of Canterbury. This will be a prime place to sit back and watch some sport with a great selection of food on the menu."

So far, they confirm they are showing:

- the Opening Game Brazil v Croatia live at 8 am Friday

- England v Italy 10 am Sunday

Jason Pine will be at Chicago, 1 Queens Wharf, Wellington for the opening game:

" They have plenty of screens and a new HD projector. Jason Pine, News Talk ZB commentator, will be broadcasting live from the bar at the beginning of the World Cup. As an added incentive they are offering $9.00 breakfast burritos."

I've been there with Chilean friends when visiting Wellington - great range of craft beers and nice food.

No doubt a good place to hang out during the Cup.

The Old Bailey on Lambton Quay was pretty good for the game this morning. Will usually watch the 7am ones at home but would have been getting into work a bit late if I'd stayed home for the 8am game today. Old Bailey is nextdoor to where my office is so made sense. Was pretty packed to begin with and you needed to have pre-booked to get a table, but managed to get a stool to at least sit for the first half, then it cleared out a lot at half time presumably with people going to work so managed to get a table for the 2nd half and ordered breakfast.

Back to 8am games tomorrow which will make it a bit late for me to get into work if I watch at home so just went into the Old Bailey to ask which one they are showing and they said they'll have both on as they have 2 Sky decoders so think that's what I'll do. Next door to work so I can still be in the office by 9.45ish instead of after 10.30 if I watch at home. Also makes it convenient to check in on the other game without flicking channels and missing things.
