If no-one touches the ball (and it seems no-one did), it's not a goal, but a corner.

Never knew that. Thanks.
Is that the same from a throw in? I seem to remember a game at Villa where something like this happened.Own goal from a throw in. Or did the keeper touch it?

Can't score directly from a throw-in either. In that Villa v. Birmingham game the Villa keeper (Enckelmann?) touched the ball because he didn't know the rules and it ended up being a goal.

Similar thing happened in the final of the Women's U17 World Cup here, think North Korea conceded a goal like that.el grapadura2010-03-05 15:40:52

Law 15 - The Throw in

A goal cannot be scored directly from a throw-in.

Law 15 - Additional Instructions to Referees

If the ball enters the opponents goal directly from a throw-in, the referee must
award a goal kick. If the ball enters the throwers own goal directly from a
throw-in, the referee must award a corner kick.

Law 16 - The Goal Kick

A goal may be scored directly from a goal kick, but only against the opposing
team.

Nothing specific in LotG regards the consequences of own goal from a goal kick, but following the logic of an own-goal from a throw in, a corner does seems the sensible option.

rubbish keeper and poor tactics from the defender- should go short.
At Macallister pk last year the same thing happened to our keeper, he punched it over for a corner.

Did your keeper take the goal-kick himself? If so, the proper call should have been an indirect free kick to the opposition rather than the corner.

From the FIFA Laws of the Game:

Goal kick taken by the goalkeeper
If, after the ball is in play, the goalkeeper touches the ball again (except
with his hands) before it has touched another player:
an indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team, the kick to
be taken from the place where the infringement occurred (see Law
13 Position of Free Kick)
If, after the ball is in play, the goalkeeper deliberately handles the ball
before it has touched another player:
a direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if the infringement
occurred outside the goalkeepers penalty area, the kick to be taken
from the place where the infringement occurred (see Law 13
Position of Free Kick)
an indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team if the
infringement occurred inside the goalkeepers penalty area, the
kick to be taken from the place where the infringement occurred
(see Law 13 Position of Free Kick)el grapadura2010-03-29 14:40:29

Direct FK?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Direct if outside the box, indirect if inside. I'm assuming since he was punching clear for a corner that he handled the ball inside the box.el grapadura2010-03-29 14:50:42

I don't think he took the kick himslef actually but if he did the laws of the game should have made the game unplayable since all players were risking hyperthermia by being outside on this particular day, and no doubt the poor referees brain had started to freeze over by this point.
