I really feel for him. I know I would be gutted. At least you knew that when he went down he was in pain not just diving.He stayed down.

The German's main problem in this tournament could be a lack of goals. Their usual threats, Klose and Podolski, have both had pretty awful seasons with their clubs, while the alternatives, Mario Gomez in particular, have not previously looked like stepping up. The problem might have been less if Low would pick Kevin Kuranyi, but he's too stubborn to do that. And I agree with those who say Ballack will be missed, I want the best players in the world playing against each other, which is why I'm also disappointed that Russia won't be there.

Agree entirely with you Jam - Germany will struggle for goals. Klose is past it imo. I would like to see Muller get a bit of game time and get a few goals.

Was speaking from memory - of the 16-17 players they had in the game, I counted about 6 that won't be going to the World Cup.

As far as goals go, they have other options too - Kiessling, Cacau. They have a pretty good side, surprised that many people are dismissing them.

I watched part of that Malta game and there were huge numbers of top German players not playing.  Trochowski and Podolski were the only ones I saw in my 15 minutes of viewing.

Though Malta were missing some big names as well.  Notably Manny Muscat.

Wow, I feel bad for writing them off when Ballack went down. Great play today though, a joy to watch. The passing, movement and touches were brilliant. More of the same please.

Yeah, me too. I said they'd struggle for goals, and maybe they still will against better opposition. God Aussie were terrible (he said happily).

True, but Australia didn't show much to stand their ground against Germany today. Seems like an easy group win for Germany.

Schweinsteiger, Oezil and Boateng are all injured and at the moment in a race against time to be fit for the 2nd round match against England. Schweinsteiger and Oezil are crucial to Germany's chances.

The most exciting (or frightening, depends how you see it) thing about the Germans is that as good as they are now, they could well even be better in 2014.

I still don't like the dishonest goal keeper. I know why he was but it still reaks and I hope they lose.

The injury to Ballack was probably a blessing as they may not have played with as much freedom in the midfield with him there. The young guys that have come in are playing an expansive game. Muller will be missed in the semi though after picking up his 2nd yellow card.

High quality high speed attack, drew players out of position and bang goalfest. But how will they react when they are challenged by the Dutch? Will they freeze?

The only team that have actually looked a good team in the tournament so far.

Holland have looked good, and are building momentum nicely. Uruguay have been well organised and punched above their weight so far. Argentina looked very dangerous until Germany tore them apart.

So in other words, you're wrong.

Well what do you expect? A whole bunch of teams to run around smashing other teams 4-0 or 4-1 every other game? Not gonna happen. Doesn't mean other teams haven't been good or impressive.
