You can also add to that list wellington phoenix youth players, defenceman James Musa and midfielder Marcos Rojas

Look promising ahead of 2012 campaign
Any kiwi overseas that I forgot to mention?

I'm guessing you'd have to be under 23 on 1 January 2012.

Hopefully I'll be on an exchange in Europe during this Olympics, and will be able to catch some OlyWhites (and Euro) action.

You were right, here is a part of a FIFA document that I found:

All players participating in the preliminary and final competition of the Men's Olympic Football Tournament London 2012 shall be born on or after 1 January 1989, with the exception of a maximum of three players who do not meet this age limit who may also be included in the official list of players for the final competition.

So we have to remove Michael Fitzgerald from the list, same thing for Reid and Kayne. But we can add Dylan Windust (Seiritsu) and Luke Adams(Coventry academy squad?) plus James Musa and Marco Rojas who play at the phoenix.

There are also 2 other kiwis who used to play in Europe but now are in NZ. Tim Pilkington from Waitakere who used to play in Germany for Sc Freiburg and Michael Built who is playing in Hamilton Wanderers and used to play in Northampton.

"NEKO VUJEVICH
Gold Coast, Australia

Born in Hamilton, this 18-year-old has double-dipped internationally. He played age-group football for New Zealand before joining the Australian Institute of Sport and then playing for Australia's under-17 and under-18 sides. He missed out on their under-20s and has committed to playing for New Zealand again. A strong centre back, Vujevich plays in the Australian youth league."

Is there a sauce on that?  Good news if it's true.  I know the quote could be considered a sauce but they got other things wrong in the article so just wanting clarification to make sure this is true.

Also, I assume that Vujevich plays for Gold Coast United in the youth league?

Yes, I know. I just put on that list 2 players who already played for NZ U17 and U20...the only one that could be added on that list would be Colin Murphy(Boston College) who played the WC U17 with NZ. For a complete list of us based players there is this link, although not all of them would be eligible to play in 2012 olympics:

Cory Chettleburgh played 20 minutes for sparta rotterdam youth team on september 13th:

For about 200 Helmonders Jong Sparta has an excellent party on the mat down and play the first victory! It was 0-2 by beating Helmond Sport Young. Nathan Rutjes played 70 minutes and played a great game. In the 17th minute Young Sparta took the lead through a fine goal by Martin Rooney, indicated by the Australian James Downey. Young Sparta dictated the first half and are provided by Joey and Jesse Godee Mayele fine chances but was just 0-1 stabbing.
Just before half spared the strong playing Anthony Bentem his team through a nice sliding surface for the Spartan goal and intercepted a higher probability of Helmond striker Joost Habraken. After resting the same game picture. Young expectant Helmond Sport and gambling on the long ball. Sparta was young, however, by Touzani / Bentem with flashbacks van Gastel and Downey. Before playing Bjrn Vlasblom excellent. In the 60th minute striker took Jesse Mayele, Shayron Curiel who left the 0-2 in his lap. Afterwards, Young Sparta not been in trouble and played the game fine. Thus a great victory for the first team coach Geert Meijer.
Preparation Jong Sparta:
Matthew Donatz, James Downey (76th Ivan Almeida), Anthony Bentem, Karim Touzani, Mitchel van Gastel, Bjrn Vlasblom, Shayron Curiel (83rd Luke Banks), Martin Rooney, Nathan Rutjes (71st Cory Chettleburgh), Jesse Mayele, Joey Godee

Good to see so many youngsters overseas making a go of going / becoming professional.

Its heartning when i think of the future, especially since there actually seems to be a couple midfielders amongst that lot, our national teams achilles heal.

But the thing I'd like to know, are these players any better than some of the young talent still in the country? You can make a div 2 US college without even being a current NZ age grade rep.
