Football Fern Ali Riley is in the running for rookie of the year in the WPS. The award will be decided by coaches vote (1/3), media vote (1/3) and public vote (1/3) so lets all vote for her at http://fancorner.womensprosoccer.com/page/2010-wps-award-voting.
Shes the only international player nominated in this category (and one of a handful of non-USA team players nominated for any of the awards) so it would be a real coup if she could nab the gong in what is regarded as the best womens league in the world

AUCKLAND Football Fern Ali Riley has agreed terms with WPS expansion franchise Western New York Flash for the 2011 season.
Riley has been a free agent since the demise of league champions FC Gold Pride in November.
As well as winning a championship in 2010, Rileys debut professional season also involved individual recognition in the form of the WPS Rookie of the Year award.
Formerly known as the Buffalo Flash and coached by former All White Aaron Lines, the Flash were invited to join the WPS after winning the second tier W-League competition.
Lines was excited about Riley putting pen to paper.
"Its an honour to bring a player from my home country to the Flash in our inaugural season in the WPS," Lines said.
"Alis athleticism, international experience and pace will be a great addition to our team and Im looking forward to working with her.
Riley is one of four Football Ferns playing professionally around the world. Rebecca Smith plays for VfL Wolfsburg in Germany, Kirsty Yallop for Kristianstad in Sweden and captain Hayley Moorwood is at English club Chelsea.
The Football Ferns will play Japan, England and Mexico at the FIFA Women's World Cup begining in Germany next June and July.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
There's no way this would ever happen for a men's player. Maybe Andy needs to pay more attention to women's football.

Ali Riley's Rosengård kick off against Barcelona tomorrow morning (nz time) in the 1st leg of the UEFA Womens champions league quarter final.
Can someone change the title of the thread to reflect the team, she hasn't played for Western York flash for quite sometime.

Congrats Captain Riley Ali Riley named captain of Football Ferns
Wonder if she is targeting the LA Olympics as her swansong. Still 3 years away, but the idea to retire at your hometown Olympics must be tempting.
Incredibly grateful to so many people, especially the ones who believed for me when I couldn’t and the ones who spent months of time and energy finding ways to allow me to run and then sprint and then kick a ball. We did it! https://t.co/KqmHUM2HHh
