It's a shame that Marseille's form has gone to shark. It seems the fans have been unhappy with some of Biesla's moves but if you look at it objectively they have probably over achieved this season. If they can secure European football then they would almost certainly want a bigger squad and be more likely to keep Tuiloma around. Given that they have invested in him surely you don't just let him go now?

PSG seem in good form and would have to be odds on favourites for the title.

This

Tuiloma has a good shot at being re-signed. The club is cash strapped and will have to sell senior players on high wages to balance the books. As you said they will need a bigger squad if they play in Europe next season.

Beilsa is still held in high regard. He got given a hospital pass with the squad he inherited. Bizzarely it is the chairman and not the coach who does all the recruiting at OM. Right at the start of the season Beilsa majorly spat the dummy when he publicly accused the chairman of lying to him when he signed up. He said he was promised 35 million dollars worth of new players, which never happened and none of the 15 players he recommended were signed.

Beilsa has done an amazing job to get the side competitive. They were top of the table for ages but the thin squad was always going to unravel by the end of the season, when injuries and suspensions really kicked in. The squad consists of two or three good players plus some promising youngsters and the rest are League 1 journeyman. The bench was always woefully weak....half them were kids from the reserve team playing Regional Div 5 in France. This is why Bill has been in the match day squad so often(nothing against Bill, but he is still a teenager learning his craft.)

Unfortunately this is the reality for many clubs in Europe. Without a Russian Oligarch or Middle East Petro dollars many proud clubs with good histories are struggling. Marseille did have some South Americans lined up preseason but they could not compete with the money offered by minor EPL clubs. Losing out to sides like QPR for player recruitment must be tough to take.

Bill wasn't in the squad for the 3-5 home loss to 16th placed Lorient who are fighting for their survival (the win took them out of the relegation places).

The All Whites' possible opponent later this year, Wesley Lautoa from New Caledonia, Lorient's regular centreback, missed this game due to injury (in his fourth season in Ligue 1 with Lorient; 142 apps in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2)

there is some gossip today about Patrick Viera taking over at Marseille next season - if you were chosing a deep lying centre midfielder that Tuiloma could learn from, he would be right up there.

True

Viera would be an excellent mentor for Tuiloma if he got the job.

Bill is out of contract at the end of the season....which is four games away. The people I know who have a good understanding of OM think he has a good chance of getting a new contract. He has impressed plenty of people by working  hard and he has progressed to making the match squad on a regular basis. His age and the fact that he would be on low wages also count in his favour.....good luck to him.

As for Viera taking over a coach Beilsa would first have to leave.....and he is saying nothing about next season. The owner wants him back so we shall see. I think Beilsa will wait to see how much money will be available for recruitment. Four senior players are off contract soon and will not be staying(including leading goal scorer Gignac). There are rumours of a cleanout of more expensive players to balance the books. I can't see them recruiting much quality for next season.

Other than Viera there have been other names banded about. Claude Ranieri has put his hand up to say he is interested. Villas Boas name has also been mentioned. Even Zinidane Zidane has been mentioned.....but he is long shot. He is currently coaching Real Madrids reserves.

i think Bill will have a good U20 WC. He is easily our best player IMO. He certainly has the highest profile. OM might not want him going off contract and then shining at the WC and getting picked up by another club

Even if Tuiloma never starts regulary for the first team just being at Marseille is going to pay off for him later in his career. normally I want to see young players playing week in, week out but Marseille is something different.

Not in the squad for the 2-1 home win vs. Monaco which leaves OM fourth on the table and in line for a Europa Lge spot.

Three points behind third place Monaco with two games left (vs. Lille and Bastia - 8th and 10th placed)

Finishing third would gain them a Champs Lge qualifying spot.

I was lucky enough to get  a ticket for this match.....what an atmosphere. When Marseille scored after 87 minutes to go to 2-1 the noise from the 62,000 croud was deafening....the streets in Marseille afterwards were just like a huge party. The gamed finished at 11pm and it took us 30 minutes to get out of the stadium.......people complain about 7pm kickoffs at Westpac LOL.  Marseille still have plenty to play for even though they are currently fourth. Third is CL. Fourth and Fifth Europa League.

Todays French daily sports newspaper L'equipe said that Bill Tuiloma will soon sign a full profession contract with OM. Still nothing from the club but Beilsa and the chairman had a meeting today and recruiting was discussed.

Beilsa still has not committed to coach OM next season. For Bills sake I hope he stays.....a new coach will want his own players. How many players have dropped out of favour when a new coach comes in(Rojas comes to mind)

A thumping 4-0 away win vs. Lille last weekend sees Marseilles retain fourth on the table, two points behind Monaco.

Bill again not in the squad.

Final round of the French season this weekend sees OM play Bastia and Monaco play Metz (both teams at home).

A Marseilles victory and Monaco loss or draw sees OM clinch a Chmps Lge qualifying spot.

An OM loss or draw sees them clinch a Europa Lge spot.

You'd think Bielsa would be better for him than 2 ex-players with not a whole lot of coaching experience.

Yeah but Bielsa is out of contract and not confirmed to be staying. Apparently pissed off when he took the job and found out there was no money for players or something. Viera wants to advance his coaching career after looking after the u21's at City.

Still no word on Bill getting re-signed at Marseille. It looks very likely that he will get a pro contract soon. Yesterdays local Marseille paper had Bill at 90% chance of getting a pro contract.....probably for 4 to 5 years. His performance at the U20 WC have had lots of interest in OM football sites. His match against Portugal got plenty of positive comment.

At the moment everything at OM is in limbo. Beilsa has not confirmed he will return as coach. Training starts next week and there is no coach. Rumours are that Beilsa will wait to see who gets recruited before committing to coming back. He got burnt last season when he was promised 30 million euro in new players and did not get a single player he asked for.

Plus the Chairman has said that recruitment this year will be "low cost". So no new stars...just local cheap journeymen. They have lost plenty of their best players...Gignac and Ayew have already left and Mandanda and Payet rumoured to follow. All this is good for Bill as he could get lots of game time.....however the team could/will struggle.

As an aside the match attendance totals for OM where announced recently. A total of just over a million fans went to home games averaging around 53,000 per match. That puts OM in the top ten in Europe. Also shirt sales average around 385,000 per year which is also top ten in Europe.

Plenty of fans are asking why the club is going low cost when the overall budget is 120 million euros.....wheres the ferkin money going ?? they ask.....good question IMO

I can't believe he hasn't been snapped up? Why spend time and money developing a player and let them go when they are showing promise? I'm sure Tuiloma would get a deal somewhere else even if OM don't want him.

If he's had the contract for months being in PNG now is irrelevant. Additionally, its not hard to keep in contact with agents now adays through email etc.

If a contract has been on the table for a few months now... why has he not signed. Terms not good enough, does he want a promise of more first team action etc etc.

Bill has NOT signed a contract with Olympic Marseille. Officially there has not been an offer made. As of now Bill is a free agent.

What is going on behind closed doors is anyone's guess. He might have had some discussions with the club. They might have verbally indicated they want to sign him. Or they might have presented him with a contract and he has not signed it...but why they would do that without going public is unlikely.

OM are currently in recruitment mode. They have just signed Rekik...a young CB from Man City and Ocampos from Monaco. There are rumours of at least another four signings.

Of Bills cohort of players from the Reserves only one young guy, Sparagna, a CB, has signed a pro contract. Interestingly they let go a young defensive mid called Alef. He played for Brazil in the U20 WC in NZ. The club considers Bill a better player in the same position than a current Brazilian U20 player. Alef never made the senior match day squad last season..Bill was there 10+ times.

There is some confusion on the OM forums about Bill. Some are saying he's refused to sign a contract...others say they look forward to him getting more game time next season.

My guess is that the club has let him go off and play for NZ U23's. When he finally gets back to Marseille it will be officially announced that he has just signed a three year pro contract

There are a few rumblings on OM forums about why Bill is not back doing preseason training with the rest of the squad. Beilsa has been back since last Monday and all the Internationals who had been given extra time off have returned as well. Bill is the only player not there.

I can see why Hudson wanted such a crucial player for the Olympic playoffs and OM would have granted his request to play in PNG. But it is such a crucial time in a young players career that you want him to maximise on every chance he can get. By not being in Marseille he has gone to the bottom of the squad in terms of building up for the next season.

THe club will want to give him at least a week to recover from an international tournament...its standard practice. Bill will still be in PNG on the 12th/13th. OM head to Tunisia  in a few days time for a game on the 18th(still provisional at this stage for security reasons) From there they head to Turkey for a tournamant with games against Fenebache and Real Betis 22nd and 25th. They then are back in France and play Livorno on the 28th. Then there is the primo pre season game.....OM vs Juventus on the 1st of August in Marseille.

Beilsa will have his starting 11 and bench sorted and well drilled before these games. The chance of Bill breaking in at a later stage is not great. Preseason is such a key part of the season...if you get game time and impress then you are on the front foot for the upcoming season

With all the departures from OM recently Bill had a great chance to get significant match day experiance against the likes of Juventus, Betis etc......instead he is in the arse end of the world playing PI age group teams

I hope Hudson knows what he is doing calling Bill into the Olympic squad....because he could well have set back  a young players shot at the big time.

Given he left other players in Europe, I'm sure Hudson has a good sense of the status of each player within their club. Or at least he should.

LOL..harping on again

Put yourself in Bills shoes...or boots in this case. Where would you rather be?  In PNG getting the crap kicked out of you in a Oceania U23 tournament or back in your professional club preparing to play Fenebache, Betis and Juventus

What do you mean by "he'll be fine"? Do you think a junior player can miss a fair chunk of preseason at a pro club and it not have a negative impact?       Do you think he can fly in later in July and go straight into the match day squad?  You obviously don't know much about how pro football works in Europe.

My original point still stands....Bill should be in Marseille not PNG

he has a valid point and I don't quite get that Hudson has considered the status of each player at their club (in bills case)

On the spretrum,

Boyd - no question has to prove himself and kick ass at his new club. Has to have a pre season and get in front of people

Bill - in the middle (see austins comments)

Thomas -established player, doesn't have to prove himself, young star.

The only reason Thomas is not here is that his club have said you are mad he is to good for you and that schedule.
