That's higher level than most in Scandinavia, so probaly deserves his own thread now.

Umeå FC retrieves another player from Nyköping's BIS. This time it's goalkeeper Cameron Hogg, 24, who joins. The contract is signed over the 2020 season. The new Zealand goalkeeper joined Nyköping in the summer of 2019 and played all the matches in the fall when the team only lost one match. However, a new challenge awaits in a higher series for the 190 cm long goalkeeper. - I feel excited to come to an organization like Umeå FC. It's this kind of opportunity everyone we players work hard for, says Hogg, and explains why the choice fell on Umeå FC: -

"It is a combination of having a fantastic leadership team, a chance for me to be challenged at a higher level and a longing to show me even more in Swedish football. Hogg joined Umeå early this week and the first impression could not be better. - I love the club, the city and the people. I can never give enough praise to the Swedish public, I love life here. The team's winning mentality and professionalism are contagious and that is a good sign for the coming season", says Hogg, who acknowledges that the choice would be a little easier when he had both Enis Ahmetovic and Jakob Bergman as teammates in Nyköping last year and Brian Clarhaut as coach:

- "I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a factor in my decision to move to Umeå. One of the reasons why I liked Nyköping was precisely the presence of players like Enis and Jakob, they raise morale and quality in all the groups in which they are located. Then to know that I could continue my career under Brian's leadership. His hard work and desire to win spreads within the group and takes out the best of people."

Describe yourself as a goalkeeper! - "I am a goalkeeper who values presence and safety. I talk a lot and like to control my defenders. Besides of course stopping balls, I am a goalkeeper who wants to dominate in the airspace and that I am good with both feet." Now he is looking forward to the new challenge in Umeå FC. - "Above all, I want to continue to grow and develop as a goalkeeper and teammate in a professional football environment. I will do everything to help make it a great season!"

Danny Persson on Cameron Hogg: - "Cameron is a goalkeeper who has a good range, is good with his feet and likes to be heard. He did a very good fall season with Nyköping last year and will fit very well into our goalkeeper team under the leadership of Kim Eriksson."

Is he related to Ian??

Swedish 2nd division probably a great place to progress - he's still very young as a GK...

Another Kiwi to make a new club competitive debut in Scandinavia.

In goal as Umeå FC (promoted from 3rd tier this season) travel to GIF Sundsvall (relegated from top tier this season) in Swedish 2nd tier (Superettan).

If he becomes a regular keeper at that level, must parachute him in AWs calculations as 3rd choice keeper behind Marinovic and Woud.

Plenty of international company for Hogg (Japan, France, Turkey, Norway, Uganda & Ghana). Only 4 Swedes in starting XI for Umeå.

A 3-1 loss first up for Hogg and his team mates.

On the bench as Umeå (11th) lost 1-0 at Degerfors (now 1st)

FYI - Umeå had 5 Swedes starting, whilst whole starting 11 for Degerfors were (probably still are) Swedish.

Back as the starting keeper, but it hasn't gone well. First time since match day 1.

Umea lose 0-3 at home to AFC Eskilstuna, one of only 2 teams who were below them on the table pre game.

Umea slip to 15th (2nd last).  10 games to go.

Edit - I missed that he actually also played mid week, in an even worse result.
He was in goal then as Umea got thrashed by top of the table Degerfors 6-0.

So an eventful if not happy return to starting lineup, this week.

Perhaps not surprisingly after being in goal for 2 games, that saw a combined 9 goals conceded, back to the role of backup keeper.

Umeå with a 3-3 draw at Akropolis (5th).

Umeå, 15th and 3 points from safety with 10 games left.

Views from the bench a vital 1-0 win over GIF Sundsvall (5th)

Umeå still 2nd last, 3 points from safety with 3 games left.

6 point game this weekend at Norrby, who are 3 points ahead of Umeå

As 2 Kiwis and their team get promoted to the Swedish 2nd tier, another Kiwi is seemingly heading in the opposite direction.

Umeå get thrashed 6-0 at Norrby (11th), who had only been 3 points ahead prior.

Hogg not in match day squad.

Umeå still 2nd last, 4 points from safety with 2 games left. Bottom 2 teams automatically demoted.

Not in match day squad as Umeå draw 0-0 with Västerås SK (7th).

Result effectively confirms relegation for Umea. 2nd bottom with 1 game left.

Team above them Dalkurd are 3 points in front with a 16 goal superior GD. So barring a miracle Umea will drop to the Swedish 3rd tier.

Hogg has been in goal for 3 league games which combined unfortunately were 12 goals conceded, and 1 scored. Ouch

Relegation for Umeå to Swedish 3rd tier, confirmed with a 1-1 draw against Örgryte, in their last game.

Even if they had won, they would have been relegated on GD from Dalkurd who go into relegation playoffs.

No Hogg in match day squad. He may have already been moved on. Though I see his old manager from his previous club (American Brian Clarhaut) who bought him to Umeå, is still there.

Knew he had his own thread! Didn't want to start a new one so just put it in Kiwis outside the UK.

Hogg has played at this level (Swedish 2nd tier) before and from memory unfortunately had a few games where his old club Umea conceded a heap of goals. They got relegated.

Hopefully it goes better 2nd time around.
