Summer signing George Porter completed 90 minutes as the Development Squad lost 1-0 to Blackpool at Gawthorpe.

And the former Leyton Orient winger, sidelined by an ankle injury in the early stages of the season, went closest to an equaliser for the Clarets as he hit a post in an improved second-half performance.

Teenage midfielder Cameron Howieson also made his first appearance since being given a break following his summer schedule with New Zealand's national and Olympic teams.

Howieson's pass was struck against the woodwork by Porter as Burnley looked to cancel out a 44th-minute strike from Blackpool midfielder Curtis Thompson.

Thompson - son of former Clarets' midfielder Steve - stroked the ball home after Burnley had surrendered possession at the back.

And Blackpool almost doubled their lead after an hour when Adda Djeziri hit a long-range effort against the bar.

Cameron Howieson returned to Burnley colours

The Clarets had gone close in the first half when Porter charged down a clearance with the ball bouncing just wide and Keith Treacy, who played for the opening 45 minutes, shooting at the keeper following a one-two on the edge of the box.

Burnley, watched by boss Eddie Howe, then stepped it up after the break but couldn't force a leveller in the latest of their series of behind-closed-doors games with Stevie Hewitt seeing an effort saved after Porter had just failed to connect with a fine Shay McCartan cross.

Burnley: Nizic, Williams (Richardson 40), Conlan, Coleman, Errington, Hewitt, Love, Howieson (Daly 77), Porter, Treacy (Evans ht), McCartan.
