In the B2B podcast, Chris Wood talks about his early time at I think it was Leeds, and regularly copping a gobful from some home fans walking off. Of course they all loved him by the end of his time there.

When the Woodsman signed for Burnley, I remember the dickhead Leeds supporter who signed up briefly here on the Forum, just to vent that Wood would never be good enough for the EPL.

I guess the abuse is often nasiest at strikers, because any error/miss they make during a game can really stand out.

Leggy?

Didn’t vent I guess, just said that!

Apparently Plymouth have a fairly good attacking record, equaled by a fairly miserable defensive record!

A soft goal for Leeds from Gnonto.
A couple of good touches from Waine, but possession is all Leeds. Could be a day living off scraps.

I watched youtube highlights, it was poor defending of a high ball by Plymouth but that was a great finish from Gnonto

So in crude terms Waine (0-2 home loss to Leeds) does no worse than Hardie (0-3 home loss to WBA).

Sounds like Plymouth showed very little on attack in the latest game, so maybe Waineo did ok

This week's Niche Cache.

Waineo: “It's never easy. Everyone wants to play but when Ryan [Hardie] is scoring goals and playing well you just have to take your hat off and show the respect he deserves for doing so well, and then in the background just being patient and waiting for a chance to come along. It's as simple as that. I'm happy for Ryan because he's doing really well and at the moment he has been deserving to play. I'm obviously happy I got a chance to show what I can do and we will just move on from there.”

Games have been tough to come by but he did get a rare Championship start on the weekend as Plymouth faced off against Leeds United. The team that knocked them out of the FA Cup (in extra time of a replay), also a team that Waine scored in the reverse league fixture back in November. The Pilgrims have been operating with only one central striker under new manager Ian Foster and that’s been Ryan Hardie, who has scored 5 times in his last 10 matches. But Hardie was given a rest against Leeds, meaning Waine made his 10th start of the season across all comps but his first since December.

Only thing there is that Leeds are way better than Plymouth. They took the lead after ten minutes through Wilfred Gnonto, left wide open for a looping punt over the top. Leeds had already shown an inclination to control possession so nothing changed after they scored. Waine had a typical game for himself in which he worked hard, made lots of sprints, but didn’t get enough touches of the ball. However he did have one huge moment to potentially equalise... a flowing counter attack after he’d won the ball on halfway himself, which ended in a low cross that narrowly evaded BW in the centre of the goal. He claimed afterwards that he felt it flick his laces.

Not to be. Waine was then subbed on the hour and Leeds went on to score a second via Georginio Rutter. The 2-0 result sends Leeds up to second and keeps Plymouth happily enough in the lower-mid table realms. Their main target is just to stay in the division after getting promoted last term and they’re well on course for that as things sit.

Yeh, they were worse after he came off against Leeds imo. But the service to him wasn’t great. A lot of row z shooting, rather than a pass into feet it in behind.

Plymouth with a very valuable 2-0 upset win. Waine on late at 83 mins (2-0) for Hardie. Hardie has been in a good scoring run, and got another one in this game.

McGree & Silvera both came off for Brough.

Too late in the season for that. He's only a Hardie injury away from getting game time. 10 matches to go, and looks like being a relegation scrap to the end. 8 teams separated by only 2 points. These tough physical away games, where Plymouth (16th, 40 pts) often just have the lone striker up top don't suit Waineo much. It's not really his game. Hardie's 4 years older than BW, and alot more experienced in the UK leagues. A big learning campaign for Ben you feel this one.

I see Wednesday (23rd, 38 pts) had 3 CBs. This would have been a tense tight, relegation battle grind. It might actually suit Waine if the Pilgrims got relegated. You'd think he'd get more game time in League One, but still be better for this tough Championship season battling big bodied experienced defenders.

Waine an unused sub in a 1-1 draw. Blackburn went down to 10 men at 54 mins when 1-0 up.

Both teams now 3 points above the drop zone, though some teams below with a game in hand. It's going to be tight til season end.

Unpopular opinion incoming, but would it be the worst thing for him to drop down to League One - Through either relegation or a loan move?

The better performers for Argyle this season are likely to have release clauses upon relegation, or they will be picked up by other Championship sides. There would also likely be a bit of movement once a coaching set up is in place and he has the type of players he wants, whoever it may end up being.

It was floated earlier in the season when the transfer window was open that a loan to a League One side might be more beneficial for him in terms of picking up game time. I still think that would have been a good play - Of course not everyone thinks this would have benefited Waineo, but at least he would have likely seen more playing time.

I think the plan was to sign a couple of strikers over the UK summer and loan Ben out but that didn't happen.

We've now had a manger stolen by a shark club up north and just sacked England's version of Baze.

Ben not a popular figure at all right now at Home Park. Hopefully a season loan out to a L1 side will happen next season (praying that Argyle avoid the drop). Worked for Chris W. all those years ago.

Last season Argyle were shark hot (Champions) and the Nix were poor, complete change of fortunes this season.

You'd think if Plymouth go down, both Hardie (12 goals, in 34 games) Whittaker (19 goals in 40 games) will be targets for other Championship clubs. Waine has 2 L1 goals from 759 mins.

The Pilgrims have actually done okay scoring goals this season (GF 55, ranked 11th best in The Championship). The leaky defence (GA 65, equal 3rd worst) is the issue.

Waineo is still only 22, but yeah he needs to drop down to League One, or even a loan deal to a less physical Euro league. Lets not forget he left the Nix only a bench player under Uffie.

Plymouth (21st, 41 pts) travel to Rotherham United (24th/last, 23 pts).

Rotherham are already toast, re relegation. A whopping 16 pts behind Sheffield Wednesday (23rd, 39 pts). Though Rotherham did beat Millwall (19th) in their last match, so haven't given up yet.

Game on Sky Sport (and thus dodgy streams) today.

Whittaker highly likely to be a Prem striker in the next 12-24 months.

As you say let down by a poor defence (half of the squad injured) A bit like the Nix last season.

We've scored only 1 goal a game max of late.

Well coming on in the 76th min (1-0 up), you'd hope he'd work his nuts off for 20 mins or so, otherwise he's in the wrong line of work. But yeah sounds like he had one of his better cameos. Though Rotherham are the weakest team in The Championship and will be a L1 side next season.

Huge win for the Pigrims, and they go 4 clear of the relegation zone with 5 games left. Teams below with a game in hand (play tonight).

I'm calling it - within 3 seasons he will come good, be it at Plymouth or elsewhere.  He's a good player, and can become even better, and will benefit from the professional environment.

A very small percentage of footballers are peak from day one - he will take time to adjust. We have a multitude of examples in our football history to prove this.  He will come good - if I'm wrong so be it, but I'll believe that till proved otherwise.

Current view on PASOTI is that he will get a start or an early sub on against either QPR on Tuesday or Leicester on Friday. Ryan Hardie badly needs a rest which opens up this chance.

Best thing that happened for us was sacking our version of Bazeley.

Caretaker team brought Waine in from the Nix, so it bodes well but he still needs to be starting.  You're never going to improve in your 20s with 15 minute cameos at the end of Nix, Argyle or AW matches.  He really needs that loan move like Chris had to "bed in" as a starter.

Thankfully the dross that was brought in by Foster was benched for our more experienced pros, who will guide us home.

I don’t think he’s going that badly!

He’s scored a few, but not a hat full. But he’s a striker new to the Championship. He’s certainly scored in the cup. He’s never looked particularly out of place. Let’s be honest, very few players are the natural athletes that Woodzy is, in the frame for the PL from 18 or whatever it was. Waine will have to scrap for his success for most of his career you’d have thought. But to mind he’s been scrapping effectively this season. Though grabbing one last night would have been a good buzz!
