It's interesting as I've heard several people over recent years say Melbourne City are as good as a Championship team, and that the rest of the A-League is about League One. If Waine - who often looked better than most in the A-League, can't even make the bench (let alone get minutes), it might indicate City is more like League One level and rest of A-League is more like League Two level.

i think thats about right.

the top of the a-league is not anywhere near championship level or even the top of league one where the standard is much higher and the games are much quicker

like ryan said that ifill said, the typical a-league squad drops away pretty quickly. i would add that it also drops away pretty quickly in the first choice XI.

I can only assume Ifill was talking about himself being championship standard - which he was as he was one of the very few in the a league from there who made the move in the terry money era

He's arrived mid-way through a season into a completely different environment, at a club that didn't sign him to be an immediate starter - other side of the world, adjustment etc etc.  Give the lad a chance!  If 18 months from now he's still not making match day squads then fair enough, but for now just grasp the fact that these things do take a little time.   Other than Ryan Nelsen, not too many Kiwis have instantly hit the ground running in top pro ranks (people forget how ropey Reid was in his first few months at West Ham until he found his feet).

Plymouth strike me as a well run outfit - no way their research and scouting efforts have come up that short that quickly.  It took Chris Wood time to find his feet - Waine possibly in the same boat...

Or yeh, maybe he is total rubbish, not up to it and will crawl back to the A-League - reading some of this thread that seems to be inevitable/his only option...

Yeah, took Wood years to find his scoring abilities and Reid needed a season in the championship to really kick on (was actually lucky West Ham got relegated because he looked massively out of place in the EPL). The kid will push on, whether here or at another team.

Melbourne City would give bottom of Championship teams a run for their money. No other A-league team would though.

A-league standard is League one/two equivalent. From someone who has spent a lot of time watching lower-league UK and A-league football.

Waine a 74th min (1-0) sub as Plymouth get touched up 3-0 at Barnsley. Fellow AW Jamie Searle an unused sub for Barnsley.

Plymouth still 2nd, but now only 2 points ahead of Ipswich Town (3rd).

Having watched all three leagues loads, your not far off there.  Current Nix squad would be trying to avoid relagation from League One from what of seen of both the A League and League One this year.

On another note off to Wembley for the Pizza final (have got a B.Wayne Argyle shirt made for the game) and at the Oxford game the other day I wore my Nix shirt and scarf (same colours as Oxford!), Ben saw them and gave me a wave!  Top lad, his face literally lit up when he saw the Nix scarf.

Hilarious if you have a B.Wayne Argyle shirt made for the game.

That definitely will be limited edition stuff!

Ends up finishing 2-0 to Argyle. They go back to the top of the table and stay there for now with Searle's Barnsley beating Sheffield. Barnsley and Sheffield however have 2 and 3 games in hand respectively before Argyle's next L1 game on the 8th of April.

Going to have to wait till the 3rd of April for the EFL Trophy final and hopefully Waine's big chance.

Presumbly sitting up in the stands, but not in the match day squad as Plymouth get trounced on their big day out 4-0.

Focus switches back to the Promotion scrap. 6 rounds left.
Handy experience I guess if Plymouth (2nd) return to Wembley for a Promotion Playoff later this season.

Plymouth (83 pts) yes top of the league, but it's tight. Ipswich Town (81 pts) who are on this great winning run now into 2nd on GD from Wednesday (who drew, 81 pts)

Waine on in 56th min (1-0 Morecambe) & scored at 86 mins.

Just seen the goal, decent finish. But how many away fans did Plymouth take up there? Had to double check it wasn't a home game for them. Incredible support.

No goal this time but on as a early sub at 52 mins (0-2) in an upset 0-2 loss.

Plymouth drop to 2nd, 1 pt behind Sheffield Wednesday, but Pilgrims with a game in hand.

Plymouth (2nd, 83 pts) travel to Exeter City (12th). Has the feeling from afar of a big game.

Only 2 points separate Sheffield Wednesday (1st, 84 pts), Plymouth & Ipswich (82 pts) with 6 rounds left. Wednesday only have 5 games left. Two will get automatically promoted, one into the promotion playoff lottery.

Plymouth get up 2-1, with a 96th min winner to stay atop the league! Not the first game they have won late on, recently. No Waine in match day squad.

Ipswich & Sheffield Wednesday (have played one game more) both also won, so Plymouth needed the victory to stay top.

It's tight for those promotion spots.

Fans saying he's injured, but no one is saying what sort of injury

Was an ankle injury not too long ago. Part of the reason he missed the cup final v Bolton.

Recurrence or flare up of the same injury perhaps?
