He may well get stuck in the situation where he plays for a promotion-winning side, gets to the Premiership where he sits on the bench for a while, and ends up heading back to the Championship to do it all over again.

Exactly this, Winston quickly fell out of favour at West Ham when he first signed but look at him now.
I still think Chris will make it as a squad Prem Striker, if not at Leicester, then maybe at the likes of Ipswich, Brentford (!), Bournemouth and co in the future if they achieve promotion.

I think there are differences between Wood and Reid. Reid had to start out in the Premier League straight from Denmark. Wood was actually in the Championship and despite scoring a few goals fell out of favour. I think West Ham actually had faith in Reid but it doesn't seem like Leicester does.

If Wood wants my advice then he should get out of England. Get off that treadmill. Find a club somewhere else in Europe which will always be in the top division. England seems too volatile.

I'm sure he's making a killing right now, the only places in Europe that would match that would be Germany, Spain, France and Italy and TBH I'm not sure that his style would suite most of those leagues.

Leicester should at least send Wood out on loan. If they get relegated then he will be handy to have next season but it just isn't going to feature in the Premier League this season. Wolves are close to the playoffs in the Championship but have lacked goals all season. Sheffield Wednesday are another in the same situation.
It looks like LFC are ready to cash in... so who's going to pay $5m for a Championship (borderline Premiership) quality striker in need of some experience/game time... and goals????
I've said before (and been shot down) but I'd love to see him have a go on the continent as it would be good for his development and broaden his capabilities (not to mention experience) playing a different type of football, then look at going back to the UK in a couple of years when he'll still only be 25/26.
I'd love to see him get a good couple of years of week in, week out football to get to the next level... wherever that may be (well, he has to stay in Europe).

I don't think that he will go for that amount, but £5m for a proven championship goalscorer is pretty standard. He is young so there will always be re-sale value, and if he scores enough goals to get you promoted it is worth somewhere in the region of £40m these days.
That money is worth it if you are like Wolves who need goals and want to get promoted.
If they are asking 6m for Reid, you know that Wood is not worth 5m
but it is all about the length of the contract, and the cost of losing a player for nothing. Reid is worth significantly more than £6m, but only has 6 months left on his contract. West Ham would probably take £4m for him at the moment, as it is better than £0 when he leaves in the summer. It is approximately £1.5m per place in the final table of the premier league, so the club would weigh up that keeping Reid is unlikely to have us finish 3 places higher. Wood would have 2 or 3 years to go on his contract so the club have no pressing need to sell - the demand comes from the clubs (like Wolves) who are seeking the proven championship player. As I mentioned earlier, I cannot see him going for £5m, but the club will want more than the £2m they paid for him.
