Welcome to transfer windows. 99% of what you read and hear is garbage, designed to drive player's value up or down depending on what the clubs want. Leeds put an inflated price on him because he is their prize asset currently. He's got nothing to lose by staying with them to the end of the season, and if he carries this form on his value will truly increase. He is well on his way to being one of our best ever players - remember at the same age Rufer was playing in the Swiss League which is probably a similar level, and he did ok later in his career

he is more than a six yard poacher as alluded to earlier. He has scored a variety of goals this year from a bicycle kick to a tap in. Are some people underestimating him because he's a kiwi and that's our way?

Could be fair. Scott Hogan has scored 14 goals in 25 games for Brentford and they have put a value of 15 million on him as well.

Has a few assists and as others have said, is a handful to deal with.  Will end up being NZs greatest AW based on appearances and goals if not silverware.

It helps when the coach understands your game, rather than having a model and trying to shoehorn you into it...

Chris Wood in the frame for a switch to the Chinese Super League? Okay, it's the Mirror, but....

With the kind of $$ on offer in this league, could he say no if they do come calling?

He did beat Cannavaro on the turn and almost score vs Italy in 2010 so maybe Fabio still rates him from then!

I was just imagining how much a legend of the Phoenix someone would be if they'd scored goals the way he has this season. Better than any of our top players right? Maybe Burns?

EDIT: sorry comparing his contribution to Leeds this season, to any player who'd played for the 'Nix.

You'd hope so, his wage bill would make Cahill's look reasonable.

the misses look bad- but a good game by the looks, they won, bundled one home and was a good move from out wide to set up the shot for the other highlight. Kind of misses you don't want to make when auditioning for West Ham though!

I can understand the first shot, he took it early as the defender and keeper were both rushing out, just ovecooked it and the second miss happens, when the ball lands at your feet as your rushing forward and trying to turn your body etc...

Gee some of the comments in here downplaying the lad. Slow, missed a couple of sitters, 20 goals this season. All of that applies to Zlatan so Chris is in good company. It seems some of you haven't actually watched him play this season and just chucking a few stereotypes out there. He is a more than competent all round striker. If there was any criticism coming in to this season it was his lack of heading ability rather than pace. He's addressed that and is now ready for the step up.

I can only see comments (mine included) suggesting that during the last game there was some pretty bad misses, which they were. I'm sure everyone here is a big fan of Woody.

How could anyone not want the best for Chris Wood, seems to have come across as being a nice bloke to me, good team man, and a sister's wedding aside, has always made himself available for the AWs. He would have some impressive air miles .

I'm sure we would all love to see him in the EPL as a regular starting striker. However playing for a lower table EPL side as he would undoubtedly be, he would get less chances per game than playing for Leeds at Elland Road against a managerless Nott Forest side, ie he'd have to be more clinical.

If the height of Wood's career is being a top scorer in The Championship that is still an excellent career.

Last weekend watched Swansea pinch a 3-2 win at Anfield. The Swans had the big Spanish striker Lorente (age 31) up front and he scored 2 goals, a goal mouth scramble and a great header from a counter attack. They were pretty much the only clear cut chances he got all game. Watching that game, I did think this is level that big Chris would need to be playing at to be an EPL regular. Hopefully he can. He's still only 25, so plenty of time.

When Llorente was 25 he was already a regular starter in a good la Liga side and a member of the Spain squad which won the World Cup. As good as Wood is I think it's safe to say he's at least a step or two below that level...

Players develop in different ways and have different opportunities.

Maybe he means going further back where there is discussion about whether he is a good enough player to be in the EPL. The first couple of times he had a chance he couldn't quite make it. You perhaps forget he's been in the PL with West Brom and with Leceister, but not mananged to nail down starting berths either time. This also suggests that the managers thought he had the chance of playing at that level.

I said something earlier on about most of his goals being around the 6 yard line. This wasn't knocking him- this was to me proof of Ernie's theory about the latter. Also it is where a good centre forward should be operating. I also think PL defenders will be much tougher.

I think he's missed his chances and wasted opportunities at the wrong times- he had a mini-shot with Leceister when they were missing strikers to injury and couldn't convert that opportunity unfortunately.

If he was in Spain, maybe he would have had a chance in La Liga by now, who knows.

Leeds knocked out of FA Cup by non League Sutton 0-1

Wood didn't play and presume rested

Busy time for Leeds with another game on Wed. Doubt they will mind too much being out of FA Cup as they focus on chasing promotion

The Leeds Manager made a big call. In addition to putting out virtually a reserve team, he gave a debut to  18 year old Mallik Wilks   a few days after his brother was shot dead.
