On a kinda related note, Mooy really dominated the game,. Maybe he will make the step up to the Premiership at some point.

Great read. Nice snippet on the Wood family and his EPL debut as a 17 yr old
Can see why his sisters wedding was so important to him. Fair enough
So happy for Chris. He has put in the hard work, made so many sacrifices and now he is reaping the reward. It would be nice if he had some stability with his club. Ideally it would be great if Leeds got promoted and Woodsie got regular play in the EPL. THe worst thing would be to sign with a EPL club with a big squad and then sit on the bench....he needs match time. He is still maturing as a striker and has got plenty of years left.......go Woodsie
The real disappointing thing is the lack of NZ media coverage. Kiwi kids playing football need heros and role models. Not surprising in eggball land but FFS being top January goal scorer in Europe is a very very BIG deal. Yet rugby has beens like Dan Carter gets publicity for playing in France. His Paris team averages 8300 home crowds in a city of 10 million.
agree, have always felt winston reid & chris wood dont get as much media coverage as they deserve. Even ryan nelsen should have got more.

Did you know Richie McCaw and his missus did the coast to coast the other day? Apparently that's big sports news over here. Fudgeing joke of a country.
Why does Steven Adams have such a high profile vs Reid? Especially as he refuses to represent NZ.

Simply put, in the social media/10 second sound byte digital world we live in, Steven Adams has more opportunities to impress in a game of basketball vs Reid in a football game.
Also, any coverage of Steven Adams in the US market is going to be picked up here by NZ news. And given that it's much easier to watch coverage of the NBA in NZ Vs Premier league, of course Steven Adams has a much higher profile.
I see news coverage in NZ when Winston Reid scores in a game, but that happens once in a bluemoon. Steven Adams scores, rebounds, blocks in every game and also WINS more that Winston does for the Hammers.
Is that fair? No, but that's life...maybe if Winston gets kicked in the nuts he might get a higher profile?
Back on topic...Congratulations to Chris on his award and I hope Leeds push on to claim a Premier league spot with Chris playing a major role.
A lot easier to get vision of Steve off ESPN than it is to get of Woo, in a TV broadcast sense.

If you mean that there are way more NBA games in a season than EPL then yes I agree.
But he's turned down the national team repeatedly and made a bit of a circus about it. The media should be supporting NZ athletes that are loyal to NZ.

Also Adams has proved himself to one of the most quotable players in a high publicity league, he comes out with a fantastic soundbite at least once a week. Reid/Wood both have far less interview opportunities, aren't cult heroes in the league and doesn't come across as nearly as personable.
Adams has more than earned his place in the media spotlight and comparing media coverage of the NBA and the Premiership/Championship is apples and oranges.
In fact Adams and Reid couldn't be further apart when it comes to personality in interviews.

isn't their job just to "sell papers" (read get clicks) what do they care about loyalty to NZ?
Adams is simply more interesting than Winnie. I love Reid but he's got the personality of a wooden plank.
A very sturdy plank... which I admire in a CB

I mean you can often find a clip or two on ESPN of any game if you look hard enough, especially if OKC does something notable, then OKC games are televised quite often on top of that.
Whereas Leeds are on TV, a couple of times? and at 1am on a weekend morning.
Adams also happens all across the week.
All very well that we can track footage of goals down on the web, but TV can't use that as easily.
I've noticed any time Wood scores it gets a yarn on Stuff, so it's not like his exploits aren't being covered.

It's funny how people have had a go at NZ cricketers and the likes of Wynton, Fred, Ryan, Winston and Tommy for (arguably) putting club (and money) before NZ yet people seemingly have no issue with this guy.... who by the way is a complete unknown here in the UK compared to our footballers, rugby players and cricketers.
Plenty of people have been pissed at Adams' non-appearances - though the only ones that have been of any note was last winter in the Olympic qualifiers and the year prior vs Aus in the same deal.
Couple of key diffs for basketball v football tho.
One, football has Fifa windows, so guys missing games have to either be disingenuous or have been given in to by NZF bosses. Basketball is at the players will, and plenty of guys skip internationals for added rest (NBA is probably the most intensely scheduled major sports comp).
Two, Adams in the NBA is unprecedented for a Kiwi (he's well beyond Sean Marks), so there's lot more reason to and until last summer, he had to earn a second contract. Expect anger to rise going forward, now that he's on a longer-term, higher-paying deal, so can afford the risks of international ball more. I think the risks were overexaggerated previously anyway but whatever
Of course a basketballer is unknown in the UK, but I'm fairly confident that Adams is a bigger deal globally than any of our footballers, though Reid would be close, sadly he's a defender ;p
Where do cricketers come into this debate, and is Fred - de Jong? What's the yarn there (before my time)
Scores again in a 2 - 1 win over Bristol City.
Wood now has 19 league goals (3 penalties) for the season, 2nd only to Dwight Gayle of Newcastle with 20 goals (zero pens) in The Championship.
Leeds sit in 5th, and are away to Ipswich this weekend. Will Tommy Smith be back marking Wood?.

In fact neither are likely. Tommy not in the matchday squad for Tractor Boys overnight as they draw 1-1 away to top of the table Brighton.
The other Smith I guess will be in his ChCh scratcher.
You beaut - get in!
Ipswich 1 Leeds 1
Wood nods on with the assist for Leed's goal.

Lovely goal that - well taken
I hope he never stops scoring.
Granted
This was tweeted after his first
Since Chris Wood's 1st league goal in 2009, only 4 players scored more in @SkyBetChamp

You can see with Leeds 3rd goal, he was sniffing around for a possible hat trick! Great to see him in this goal scoring form.
11 goals from the last 11 games.
35 in 70 in the league for Leeds
124 mins per goal
great stuff. Can't see him getting that much space ? n the EPL
Is he now universally loved by the Leads fans or are there still some naysayers
