never been there but yep that's what I've heard. Rome may be more appealing for our Christopher plus the Europe gig

As a place to live Roma’s all over Burnley. Climate more like home, a lot more things to do, soo much culture and history, has pro rugby and a nice warm beach/sea close by.

It’s more of a question does he want to play Serie A or Prem.  As a Leeds fan I’d love to have him back and I’m confident we’ll finish above Burnley next season.

If this Lazio rumour is true (if), the Woodsman will have a fair bit to mull over.

Pros - Champions League stage (that's a biggie), more dollars, living in one of the world's most famous cities, interesting culture (if he is into that), personal challenge of trying to crack match day squad at a club bigger than Burnley - getting out of his comfort zone, if he's feeling a bit stale. Adoring fans if he succeeds (again if he would enjoy that).

Cons - Leaving a team where he is pretty much an established starter now - would be frustrating if just becomes a season long backup no matter what the coin. The EPL goal scoring stats he has now will be motivating and pleasing him just quietly. Leaving a team that from afar seems to suit him, the way they and he plays, plus seemingly a low dickhead culture. Generalisations but I expect a few more egos in a Lazio dressing room, than at Turf Moore. Would he be okay with that? Burnley boys are 99% English speakers, which won't be the same with Lazio.

And yeah sure Burnley probably is a little shark hole, but Wood will be living in a nice big house in a nice footballer's estate, with his long time partner (a pro women's player in the UK?). He also has his little horse racing hobby with some of his Burnley team mates. So he seems pretty settled and happy where he is.

I see more cons than pros from afar - but yeah the lure of the UCL is a big one, and will highly likely never happen for him if he stays in the UK.

If he does go to the Eternal City, hopefully it works out for him better than Gazza! Some crazy stuff.

https://thesefootballtimes.co/2018/03/23/the-roman-tragicomedy-of-paul-gascoigne-at-lazio/

Of course, Gascoigne’s love for pranks made him a magnet for the wrong kind of attention. Besides his comical cameos with James Richardson on Football Italia – one of which involved him eating his way out of a giant chocolate egg – his jokes on team-mates and club staff were relentless. To name but a few: he deflated the tyres of Aaron Winter’s Porsche, he slipped a dead snake in Roberto Di Matteo’s jacket pocket, he took Dino Zoff’s whistle, attached it to a Turkey and released the bird on the training field, and, according to Zoff himself, Gazza had a propensity to turn up to team dinners naked.

On the field, a string of minor injuries halted Gazza’s progress, and on 24 January 1993 he was dropped for a home game against Juventus. Zoff cited his “poor physical condition”, and following the game, journalists were keen to get the player’s point of view. Gascoigne, already frustrated with his critics, was in press silence and responded by burping into the microphone of a Rai journalist.

A furore followed and the inquest into Burpgate began. The Italian daily, La Stampa, dedicated an entire page to the incident. Meanwhile, Cragnotti fumed and Gascoigne was fined £9,000. However, Gazza’s insolence and disregard for journalists further endeared him with the Curva Nord faithful. One Lazio fan triumphed: “We give Gascoigne’s burp a 10. We think he did the right thing. If they know he’s in press silence I don’t understand why they are trying to interview him. It’s the journalist’s fault.”

Probably worth mentioning I've seen nothing about this rumour on the Italian news. Meanwhile whe Lazio are believed to be close to signing David Silva. Let's hope it's another senseless rumour.

I reckon he should go for it if it's really on the table. He's 28 so he's still young enough to give this a crack for a couple of years and come back to the EPL if it doesn't work out. Most mid to lower table premier league clubs would take a player of his calibre at 30 surely.

I think we can agree his time at Burnley should come to an end. He surely wants to kick on after 3 good seasons, and Burnley could probably do with the cash.

Newcastle would potentially be a nice team to follow

Surely it would be better to stay with Burnley than those names mentioned in the headline? Going overseas to the Champions League is one thing, but none of those English names are close to European competitions.

A club like Burnley would have a wage threshold that they would not go above - that appears to be around 50k (pounds ) per week from all accounts. Wood would be close if not at that level.

A Newcastle team would go higher then that.

So money would be obviously a factor

Newcastle at least has the potential to become a bigger club (especially if they get brought out as rumoured) and money is invested.

Burnley is too small and lacks the muscle to be any more ambitious than what they are... weren't they also just above relegation prior to the lockdown. Their great end run I think makes their final position a little flattering to be honest.

No.

Burnley had an unbeaten run of 7 matches prior to lock-down, including wins over Leicester and Man Utd (at Old T), and draws against Arsenal, Spurs and at a little club called Newcastle. Were in 10th place at lockdown (where they finished the season). Had a bad Christmas/New Year run prior to that though.

But true, the odds are stacked against Burnley becoming "bigger" and doing much better than they have over the past 5 years (one trip to Europe).

Chris Woods has proved great value (his price seemed excessive at the time), and getting a replacement as effective won't come cheap. But it's a cannily run club.

I know, I know, its serious!

At this stage of his career I can’t see him going to the likes of Southampton or Newcastle. Italy is a possibility for the right price.

He also might be happy, $50k a week if he is smart is enough to set him up for life, he has 3 years left. He might be enjoying his football and the area. You just dont know what his thoughts are really

Delayed start to the new season for Burnley.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/world-game/300087818/english-premier-league-liverpool-open-title-defence-against-promoted-leeds

Man City's home match against Aston Villa and Man United's trip to Burnley on the opening weekend have been postponed as a result of the agreement among all Premier League clubs for every squad to get a minimum of 30 days between their final game of the 2019-20 season and their first of the new campaign.

From Flying Kiwis. Looks like Lazio's off.

They keep playing these preseason friendlies and Chris Wood keeps scoring. He got another one in a 3-0 win over Portuguese side CS Maritimo with a typical Chris Wood kinda goal, making a sharp and decisive run and heading in a cross. He also set up the third goal for Matej Vydra. That was their final friendly game so we know for sure that The Woodsman’s coming in with some hot form as Burnley begin their new Premier League campaign against Leicester City next Monday morning... though there’s a League Cup game to get through before that.

Burnley beat Sheffield United on pens (5-4) in League Cup. 1-1 after NT.

Wood came on in the 82 minute, and converted his pen.

Starting against Leicester, up front with Rodriguez.

And on the board early.

Goal! Leicester City 0, Burnley 1. Chris Wood (Burnley) right footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner.

1-1 at HT.

Finishes 4-2 to Leicester. Took his goal really well Wood. Strong lad. Maybe tiny hint of a hand ball.

Chris Wood has scored in four consecutive Premier League games for the first time. The last time he had a four-game scoring run in the league was with Leeds in the Championship in 2017.

A lot of frustration in Burnley at the moment - the board apparently very reluctant to invest in new players. Lennon, Hart, Hendrick and others all left in this transfer window, and the only signing coming in was a backup keeper from Wolves. Add to that the injury list - Gudmunsson, Barnes, Mee, Tarkovski, Cork... and rumours of their best defender (Tarkovski) possibly leaving. Fans very unhappy at the moment.

Not a good situation for Wood.. he needs the service to produce goals. Hopefully Burnley can find a few signings, they will need it, otherwise they are probably likely relegation candidates.

On the bench as Burnley travel to Millwall in the League Cup.

Looks a bit of a 2nd string Clarets outfit. With their thin squad probably not a bad thing for them longer term, to lose this game.

Not much of a rest as subbed on in the 16th minute to replace Rodriguez, in a 2-0 win.

Wood with the assist for 2nd goal scored by Vydra.

With Barnes already out, Burnley's depth could be really tested now, if J-Rod's injury is serious.

A lot of the clubs will be in the same boat. The UK have no end in site for covid and their recession is double ours.

Financially Burnley are one of the best run clubs run in the premiership - if not the best

While they have a thin squad this year, they should be fine when looking at some of the relegation candidates - I would put my house on Fulham and WBA going down. Then it just needs to be better then one other

I'm not at all convinced. I think they'll do well to stay up. They will really need Wood to have a big season and bag 15+ goals.
