Was in the crowd celebrating the Nix win in the weekend, maybe we will get lucky and he’s going to train with us and try get a release for the Jan window lol
If he plays regularly for Sønderjyske in the 2nd half of the Superliga season, he'll put himself in the WC picture.
Though he'll maybe have a better chance on the right flank as Payne's backup.
Dalton Wilkins is back in training and back with Sønderjyske after they recalled him early from his loan with Kolding (due to a season-ending injury to their top choice left-back)#FlyingKiwishttps://t.co/3sLTutmnIz
Five minutes later, another substitute made a splash. Dalton Wilkins dribbled into the box and was brought down. From 11 meters, Qamili kicked the penalty into the box, even though Nicolai Larsen had the ball on. 2-1, and then everything was over.
The final phase was hectic, but after five minutes of added time we were able to celebrate the victory and three fantastic points!
Looks chilly. I remember McCowatt saying he hates the Danish winters, and the freezing months playing football either side of the winter break. That in itself might make playing in the fall/spring MLS attractive
Go to about 5.30 mins in to see Wilkins (no 13 in blue) win the crucial penalty. Nudges it forward cleverly, and a pretty clear obvious grappling foul by the Silkeborg defender. Silkeborg keeper gets a strong hand to the pen but can't keep it out.
McC (17 red) doesn't feature too much.
Hopefully Wilkins gets some good mins rest of the season for Sonders. Ideally some at RB to push Payne, Tuiloma, Roux & Elliot for a WC spot. We need him more there than on the left.
Dalton Wilkins is back at Sønderjyske and in his first game after three months out he came off the bench to earn a late penalty to complete a comeback win
If Wilkins is to be any chance of a WC spot, he needs to be injury free and to somehow break into Sonders starting lineup, ideally at RB. Considering they are travelling very nicely at a lofty 3rd for them, all that seems unlikely.
I guess a real measure is if he can crack into Sonder's starting lineup. They are for them a lofty 3rd in the Superliga, so would yes be a bit of a (very late) statement to Baze, if Wilkins finished the season there a starter.
If it is bad news that Libby and/or FDV get ruled out of the WC, Wilkins might edge out McGarry for a callup.
Bazeley may even want to pick a 5th full back as cover (rather than 5th CB), given Payne, Cacace & FDV have all been injured at different times recently. Though Old now being a LB option, makes it more likely Baze opts for a 5th CB.
Given Cacace, Tuiloma and Payne can all cover FB and CB, and as you mentioned with injuries, I hope we’d look at taking more FBs rather than fewer. There’s nobody who’s convinced completely there that they’d have the skills and fitness to cope with a full game let alone 3 in a week under extreme pressure.
Up in the top half of the league, Sønderjyske had a disappointing 2-0 loss at home against Viborg. The split has not gone well for them with 2 draws and 2 defeats thus far. Still only three points behind third place though, so there’s plenty of scope to fix things. The important thing is that Dalton Wilkins played half an hour off the bench in this game, the most he’s played in any Superliga game this season.Albeit he missed the through ball that allowed for the second goal.
Midtjylland in a tight battle with AGF (1st) for the Superliga title. 2 pts between them. AGF last Danish League was 40 years ago in 1986. Midtjylland have won it plenty of times in recent years.
