Wonder how different the article would have been if he'd written it post Adelaide match?
Ricki qualified his comment on saying it a transition season a while back. Was referring to the academy etc

All White's great Danny Hay talks to Hamish McKay ahead of the Wellington Phoenix's game against Adelaide United on Sunday night. Danny and Hamish discuss the team and whether there will be a stand out player for the Phoenix. Danny also talks through plans to increase the fan base following in New Zealand football. 16th December 2012.
Danny hay and Hamish McKay talking football? I sense a lot of bitterness in this conversation.
Belgium eh?
Belgium eh?
Yes, I smiled at that.
LOL!
Okay so it's fine to have English Tommy Smith but not okay for Andrew Durante? I'm sure Tommy would have played for England had he been good enough ..oh and Reid for Belguim ..it's probably embarrasing they call Danny Hay a former All White at the bottom of this.
Surprised it wasn't "All Whites & Leeds".
Though Reid as captain, interesting idea that. Definitely worth a shot.
He didn't play when Smith got named there. I'd say Reid is the more obvious selection. Even Chris Wood, someone who is going to be the first name on the team sheet over the next five years.
My heart melts every time I see Wood.
I think we're not in as bad a position as some may say, the only big problem facing the team is that gaping hole in the midfield and Wood alone can't make up for it pounding away at the front.
he came across as a real plonker on radio sport with herbert. TBH though reid is probably the best choice. id rather tommy just focused on his game. and well reid is playing at the highest level
I've said it before, but I don't think any of us can comment on the leadership qualities of any of these players. Just because you are playing in the Premier League doesn't make you a better leader than someone in the Championship.

Not only playing there but having a game as captain last week, against Man U ?? But then they lost one nil...

Smith has captained Ipswich as much as Reid has captained West Ham.
Either way, Hay's reasoning for choosing Reid because he chose NZ over Belgium is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read.
Belgium is a pillar of comedy gold in a sea of angst and depression today.
I wish I had realised about that cockup when I posted it on the News page...
I think I should be naenae club captain because I've chosen them over a lucrative karori marmosets offer. Thanks for the support Danny!
Do clubs have a list of captains (just curious), cant seem to find anything
Apparently in some sports, if you are the captain but on a particular day someone else is captain and you are still playing (and shag a super model) you are still the captain and get fined. True story bro.

The captain will be selected not only what happens on the pitch, but what goes on off., so what you see on the pitch will mean zip.

do we want a captain who might be playing league one next year?
Why not? As long as he's likely to start for the all whites, and is a good leader on and off the pitch, what does it matter what league you play in?
Six points clear of the drop, there's a good chance they will stay up. Not that it is relevant at all.
I don't think it matters where they play their club football and at the moment it's not too bad because Tommy Smith is a sure starter, but if we get another good CB then he could be on the bench with Reid starting. Therefore, Reid should get it long term.

Not sure why Gavin Wilkinson would give up a high paying job like GM to be a coach down here.

"That's not good enough because in one breath you're trying to encourage fans to come through the gate and then in the other, well, you're going to have to endure crap football for the next three or five years.
"With some ambition and fresh ideas, things could actually be turned around pretty quickly," he said.
Hay said the club's senior players also needed to shoulder some blame but Herbert, the league's longest serving coach, had run out of ideas.
"As a player you can become stale," said the former defender who played in the English Premier League with Leeds United.
"It's like anything in life, if you eat boiled chicken every night, it's going to get pretty dull. They look directionless and rudderless.
"They've gone ragged now and there's not a huge amount of tactical awareness or structure."
Edit: not exactly groundbreaking stuff I know, I just didn't want people to think that I think Ricki should stay, because I don't!

How about from the first night?
So you're saying we should go support another team for a while to spice things up?
