Was he once a defender for the Kingz who lumped the ball or player clear, which ever he hit first.

Yep. Loud and clear. Heard it during the replay.

Got plenty of love from Ricki when I caught up with him after game.

The ironic thing is, that judging from some of his comments, he probably wasn't watching.

I think i used to rate Hay's comments when he was on highlihgts show with Catsanus. Must have just turned into a Ricki hater this year - maybe wants one of his jobs

"Winston Reid is another who should be a shoo-in. Since his starring role at the World Cup last year, Reid has proven himself as a defender in the tough environment of the English game. His inclusion would give the coach, whether Emblen or Ricki Herbert if he sticks to his plan of taking over the ability to reunite the formidable trio of Nelsen, Reid and Tommy Smith (whose age qualifies him naturally as an under-23 player).
Can I ask, is it Ricki who wants to take over or is it NZF's plan to have Ricki take over from Emblem?

My understanding in that Ricki isn't that interested but NZF wanrt it to happen so he will do so if asked. Hay's mattra that Ricki is engineeruing a coup behind Emblen is a crock of sh*t and Emblen would do well to distance himself from Hay's ill-inforned garbage.

Yeah. Something in my head had him at the Kingz at the end but I didn't recollect him starting the last season there so I figured I had it wrong.

no dramas mate, you still know a shed load more history than anyone I know about this stuff

This story illustrates perfectly why Hay spends so much time bagging Ricki and the Phoenix.
Because when he's not bagging Ricki and the Phoenix he's boring as f**k.

Nelsen giving Hay some serious man love:
"Nelsen said Hay had "unbelievable" knowledge of the best young players in New Zealand.
"If I need to talk about any player in New Zealand, I talk to Danny. I respect his eye for talent more than anyone"
Not sure if I've been reading the pages correctly but I'd thought Hay wasnt as popular here?martinb2012-01-14 09:49:55

Hay is just very bitter and twisted about Ricki's success.
Ramming liberal dribble down your throat since 2009
This forum needs less angst and more Kate Bush threads

They were both involved in bringing Tim Payne over to Rover's, so have a working relationship for sure.Nelsen giving Hay some serious man love:

I completely disagree with his passionate Herbert hating, but I have no reason to believe he isn't a good coach with a lot of potential. Certainly seems to have done well with Sacred Heart.

Gee he is an old stick in the mud. We've got the most attractive team in the league!, just look at dirty sanchez

He can't have watched much of Perth play, nor the "Victory" at their worst either. In saying that, Fallon is right that it was a great day at Eden Park, but it wasn't a great advertisement for attractive football.

Also, I haven't seen much change in how we play, just better execution, not that that stops Hay from claiming he was right and we are winning because of the changes.
