I don't want to sound to bold with this but if you (tripvincent) are in regular contact with Dominik would it not be possible to find out whether he can/wants to play for NZ? I'm sure its not that simple but it would make this thread more worthwhile I'm sure.

My guess is that he's scared about committing to NZ in case Austria want him.

No he wants to play for NZ, not Austria. Big news was that he was going to attempt to come out to NZ and train with the Phoenix for a month so Ricki could see him in action but he had to nix (no pun intended) that idea due to other circumstances. He didn't get as far as contacting Phoenix. Chance obviously that Phoenix wouldn't be interested in such an idea anyway.

So we know he wants to play for NZ that's pretty good. I'm going to assume is eligibility is confirmed Shame the Phoenix thing didn't go through would have been good to see him play here. Thanks trip.

Yes he can play for NZ as far as we are aware. I never heard back from NZF, Oceania or even Fifa (to be expected) about his eligibillity. He holds a NZ passport. He hasnt represented Austria at an official Fifa competition etc. He was realistic about under 20 chances. Was contacted by a NZF representative and informed about poss camp in Austria prior to Colombia for the NZ side but then didn't hear anything back. Anyway dead keen on NZ one day and loves the AB's! (good enough for me). Hope his helps team

Because he was born in 1993 he would still be eligible to play for the NZ U20 team in the next WC and maybe milicich  needed to take a look at him before selecting him which wasn't possible because of his injury...

An article about austrian young players playing abroad: there are a lot of them playing at different level and for the next u20 WC , Dominik(1993) will have a bigger chance to be selected with NZ than Austria

Full 90 for traunmuller in a 1-1 draw for Unterhaching U19. So far he appeared on 5 of the 8 first games of the season. The first appearance was on september 11th as a 2nd half substitute vs Greuther Furth U19. The other 4 appearances were full 90 performances.

He has been injured often in the past, but don't know if he has been playing full 90`with The U19 Unterhaching since it's more difficult to find infos about that level in Germany

He hasn't appeared in a game since november 27th! Is he injured or he was loaned elsewhere?

Traunmuller now part of Austrian u-19 squad playing qualifying matches for Euro u-19 Championships in Estonia this year:

Has been in squad since at least August last year from what I can see.
He was called up for a friendly against Slovenia u-19 last month.

Are you still in touch with traunmuller? If yes, does he want still to play for NZ and is he going back to Bayern Munich at the end of this season?

With Traunmuller currently unattached does anybody know if he is still in germany or did he go back to Austria? With him still eligible for NZ at the U20 for the next WC, I think he would have been an interesting option for the phoenix youth team as a RB(same than rowe who used to play in England)

Dominik had a terrible streak of bad luck at Bayern - injured in the first week of practice, fought his way back into the team. A few weeks after he had established his place in the starting formation he suffered a torn syndesmosis (while playing Chelsea reserves) - surgery, crutches. Just back practicing, a fellow player jumped on his ankle - torn ligaments again.

Bayer U19 already had too many injured players, so they asked him to join Unterhaching near Munich, whose U19 played in the same league. Dominik played there for half a year, but got frustrated there and decided to play for SV Pullach (now playing Bayernliga, which is the fifth level in Germany), where we live, in order to finish high school.

This March he got a call from an agent in Australia asking him for a trial in Wellington, but he could not manage before the end of the season due to some paperwork, so he went last week. Let's see how this turns out.

So far about the last two years. I hope he has more luck in the future. I am Austrian, by the way, so my English is not perfect, as you will have noticed :)

His English is ok for someone who never lived in an english speaking country, but I am sure he will speak like a real Kiwi soon. He got NZ citizenship through his mother, who studied and lived in Christchurch before (born in Bangkok).

Thanks for the information, has really filled in the gap. Hope he has more luck for the 'nix and is able to full in that troublesome right back position for the all whites in the future.

Thanks v much for the info - as you know we're desperate for a RB at club and international level so there's a real opportunity in that position!

Dominik is very fast, and he plays a modern right or left back (in the attack for much of the time). He normally does very precise crosses. Central defense is not an option due to his size, but he also makes a good midfielder.

I don't think he has to worry about playing centre-back.  Having seen him play do you personally think he has a future, or is it unclear? Have you watched A-league, is he at that level?
