lets face it, something has happened between those two similar to the Bunce/Hickey situation and we won't see Duncan in white again until NZ has a new manager.

Yeah which is ridiculous imo hes the kind of player who could have steady the ship in this game tonight. On a side note where was Mulligan tonight?

Disco -  that has been denied by a wide range of sources including Duncan's own brother Tim, who has reported that there is no bad blood between them and that him and Ricki actually met up for a coffee when he was back recently.

Maybe but why drop him then?  He's a far better player then at least a third of the squad in SA.  I still think there's more to it then him, his brother and Riki are letting on.

Imagine if an experienced and loyal All Black in a position where they are weak was suddenly dropped without explanation...
I hate to compare football to rugby but if the Graham Henry did similar journo's would be questioning him left right and centre.

It was similar in 1982, when perhaps even more of the country's top players were omitted from the World Cup qualifying and Finals squads. It's not always the most talented players who get chosen- often it's to do with players' attitudes, whether they fit with the particular team environment, get on with the coaches etc.
Case in point: Clive Campbell, one of NZ's most talented players of the initial 1981 squad, dropped for ill discipline (breaking a curfew) after a handful of qualifiers.
Arguably two of the best National League strikers of the day, Keith Nelsen and Johan Verweij didn't make the side. Scottish-born Nelsen was top-scorer in the National League for several seasons before the 1981-82 qualifiers and an established All White. He even played for NZ again after Adshead's time as coach.
Verweij was National League top-scorer here in 1979 after returning to his hometown Christchurch after winning the Dutch Youth Cup with Feyenoord. He'd already played for the All Whites but was dropped by Adshead. He had scored a memorable goal against England B in London in 1979. He has told me he never got on with Fallon.
South African-born Peter Henry was a wayward genius in the George Best mold who was also ignored by Adshead and Fallon.
Yes, it's a real shame about Duncan, because he would have added to the squad, experience and ability- wise. Yet, as in 1982, if the team's ultimately successful, who can argue with the tough choices coaches have to make? For example, Johan Verweij has always told me how much he repects that 1982 side, even though he was omitted.

In the meantime, the Crew will likely rely on Robbie Rogers and Emmanuel Ekpo to handle the bulk of duty on the flanks, or push Danny O'Rourke from the defense to the midfield. Gaven's absence could result in more minutes for Leandre Griffit or veteran Duncan Oughton.

Oughton's on espn now. Came on as a 73rd minute sub at right wing. Columbus are winning 2-1 against Philadelphia and are currently in added time. Philadelphia had Fred playing for them as well if I am correct.

Game repeated 6.30pm tonight (Friday) ESPN. Worth checking out- Duncan did well in the time he was on, some nice passes and tackles. Former Phoenix guest player Fred  one of the better performers for Philadelphia with some excellent touches.
Columbus now 10 points clear of New York at top Eastern conferernce. Great to see a Kiwi still getting game time at the best club in the US at present and another, Andrew Boyens on the squad at the second place team in the conf. NY
By the way, huge game New York Red Bulls v Chicago on ESPN Monday 4.30pm (delayed)
Debut of Mexico World Cup star Rafa Marquez for NY just signed from Barcelona, Thierry Henry and Juan-Pablo Angel also playing for NY. Freddy Ljungberg (ex-Arsenal) playing for Chicago.

Duncan played a full 90, and was captain, in Crew's 3-0 CONCACAF Champions League win over Joe Public (honest no joke)from T&T.

I had the chance to golf with Duncan at a charity golf outing this summer, and he is a helluva guy! He is liked by all in Columbus, especially the ladies (there was a hot blonde at the golf outing we were drooling over, that seemed to stick by him- the lucky dog!)! If he ever retires the crew would be stupid not to offer him a position with the team, rather it be PR or Marketing, etc. He is an icon in Columbus. Got some great playing time last Tuesday, and we hope to be cheering him on tomorrow night!

echo's in the CREW corner... OUGHTON... OUGHTON... OUGHTON...

If you lads have facebook, do friend the Ohio orthopedic center of excellence. You will find pictures of the golf outing there, with the kiwi supporting a bag of clubs along with other of his team mates! My mug is in with my team. You will also find both coaches golf. This company puts on the outing every year, always members of the crew present! I believe they are the team physicians for the team, and for the hockey team (Columbus blue jackets). Duncan and his mates even donated game jerseys and personally signed them for those who purchased. Very fine men! (I also believe the attractive blonde is in a few of these pictures! I just had another look at them! Perhaps she works there? I I'm alittle out of their age range- but we give him the go ahead with that one!) my apologies to the wife or girlfriend if he's involved...

Duncan wasn't in uniform last night in the embarrassing loss of 0-4 the crew took to the sounders. They could have used some kiwi heart heart. Hope to see him in uniform and playing all 90 on Tuesday!

Hes playing right now for the crew and got punched no cards issued, the man didn't even fire up at the other team. The referees in Concacaf are useless.

The kiwi played a helluva game tonight in a swampy pouring pitch! Absolutely terrible conditions, terrible refs! Duncan took a boot to the head, punch in the face and absolutely no cards issued! Game was called by ref at 90+ due to fighting and arguing! Horrible game 2-1 loss for the crew but heart and fire played by all! Especially by the kiwi! Coaches and players going at it clear to the locker room! Here's hoping the men showered, changed and rode their raft back to the hotel! Duncan needs to find that hot blonde when he returns home and get a rub down! Ha! He's a real class act and it will be a sad day in Columbus when he calls it quits!

Wonder if he gets called up to the AW's squad with a few players missing due to injury.

I've heard rumors about him leaving the crew, which I really doubt, but also have heard rumors about him going into a coaching role with the crew so who knows.

He should do a stint in the A-League. But with his absence in the AW I imagine there's some sort of tiff between him and Ricki. But even if he was playing for an Aussie side, would be awesome.

apparently nothing between Duncan and Ricki is wrong, so must be the fact he has been getting limited game time hence he hasn't been called up.

I'm not 100% but have heard from a few fans that were in attendance that they made some sort of announcement! I'm calling their bluff until I hear otherwise from someone who knows the truth! There has been rumors of him coaching/PR type position with the crew. Would just be awkward not so see him in the #8!

According to sources that have spoke to Duncan- these are rumors! Crew fans must have had too many to bare the weather! Although I've heard it from two different sources? Here's to cheering on our #8! sorry AW fans were keeping him!
