Ellis has signed a 2 year pro contract after impressing in their youth set-up last year! Sounds like he won't be first choice as a loan keeper is expected to be brought in, however he's the only keeper on their books at the moment.

Good to see he wants to play for us, but struggling to see how, based on that article - Unless his mother/grandparents are Kiwi?

Born in Scotland, father is Scottish, moved here aged 8, left at 16 and wouldn't qualify on the basis of living here 5 years after the age of 18.

Anyone privy to some information that could clarify this?

He "classes himself" as a Kiwi. The interesting thing though is this:

He played junior football for the Nomads club and was part of the Mainland Football federation and national talent centre programmes

I recall players were always screened for eligibility before being part of NTC, so...is this a NZF boo boo?

Wouldn't say a boo-boo just yet, but need a few more pieces of the jigsaw to be put in place to get an understanding of the bigger picture.

Going off the information in the article, I would say he's not eligible. It's all good that he see's himself as a kiwi, but the only thing valid to us in footballing context is if he's actually available to play for us.

Played in friendly match, 1-0 loss to Forfar. Manager Ian McCall confirms they are on the verge of signing a goalkeeper who will be their number 1.

Creepily, just as the interviewer asked "You had Ellis Hare-Reid in goal today..." a seagull dropped dead out of the sky. I don't know much about Ellis, but does he dabble in dark forces??

Post-match interview - at about 1:32

Pretty funny all right. Did that seagull fall out of the sky at 'Air United'?

On the bench for Ayr in their opening Scottish Championship fixture

Ayr are top of the Championship after 3 games, and Hare-Reid on the bench for all 3 as back up keeper.

Would he be eligible for U20 WC next year?

I presume not. He'll turn 20 on 12/01/2019.

You have to be under 20 on 1 January 2019, so he'd just squeeze in.

On the bench as Ayr beat Alloa 2-0, to go top of The Championship.

Hare-Reid will get a bit of a thrill in the next game, even from the bench - as Ayr travel to Ibrox for a Scottish League Cup game.

On the bench as Ayr get spanked 4-0 at Ibrox in Scottish League Cup.

Crowd of over 35,000 so pretty cool experience for young Hare-Reid, even from the pine.

Ayr are 2nd in the Scottish Championship after 23 games, 3 points behind Ross County.

Only the league winners are automatically promoted to the SPL.

Hare-Reid has been on the bench for all 23 games as back up keeper. Yet to get a start.

I think Ayr will miss out now on promotion. Dundee Utd will likely reel them and Ross County in. Have made some decent signings for that level.

I was at the LC game at Ibrox earlier in the season and didn’t even realise he was a Kiwi.

Ayr currently 3rd in the Championship, and guaranteed a spot in promotion playoffs with one round left.

Ross County are automatically promoted to the SPL as winners of the Championship.

Dundee United, Ayr & Inverness CT will go into the promotion playoffs. To be joined by the 2nd last team in SPL, for playoffs.

Dundee will be automatically relegated from the SPL, and either St Mirren or Hamilton Academical will finish 2nd bottom and join the above 3 Championship sides in the playoffs.

Crocombesque, Hare-Reid has been on the bench for every one of Ayr's 35 Championship games, to date (1 round left).

Missed out on the NZ U20's.

playoffs work like this Ayr will play Inverness home and away, the winner then plays Dundee United home and away then plays the 2nd last SPL team which is looking like St Mirren

Ayr lose first playoff leg at home to Inverness 1-3.

Promotion to SPL looks unlikely.

Ellis-Reid on the bench.

A 3rd round fixture against Wrexham in something called the Challenge Cup.

Finished 1-1 after NT, and then Wrexham winning 6-5 on pens.

So straight into a pressure situation for Hare-Reid.

Unfortunately he couldn't make any saves, and an Ayr player missed their 6th pen attempt.

This week's Flying Kiwis.

Manager Ian McCall: “Ellis Hare-Reid has been superb in training for some time now and he is very much in our sights as our number 1 for next season so there is no question he deserves a chance.”

Hare-Reid signed a new deal in the offseason and has been a regular for the club’s reserves in recent times. He was also involved in training camps for the New Zealand U20s last season yet he didn’t make the final World Cup squad.

Challenge Cup is the diddy diddy cup in Scotland ire it goes

Scottish Cup (win that gets you into europe)

League Cup - the diddy cup, win that you get a trophy

League Challenge Cup - the diddy diddy cup. Open to teams outside the SPFL (so no premiership teams - in the last couple of years they opened it up to U23 teams of the SPFL clubs and lower division teams in England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Ireland that want to enter. It was driven by sponsors Irn Bru, they withdrew and its now the Tummocks Tea Cakes Challenge Cup!

everyone in Scotland is just waiting for the day when say Wrexham (Welsh) play Bohemians (Irish) in the final of the Scottish Challenge Cup!

Still the backup keeper at Ayr, and yet in appear in a match in The Championship.

Ayr currently 3rd in Scottish 2nd tier, not having played a game for awhile with FIFA window and weather postponements.

From this week's Flying Kiwis.

Buried at the end of this article on Daily Record chatting with the Ayr Utd gaffer Mark Kerr about the state of the squad as they head back into training ahead of the new Scottish second tier season...

“Keeper Ellis Hare-Reid has penned a new deal with the club.”

Good-o. The 21 year old goalie has played just the once for the first team in a cup competition, having done most of his work for the club he signed for back in 2017 at academy level, although he’s found himself on the bench a whopping 84 times in all competitions over his time there. The point was made in that article that they’re looking to sign a new goalie since as it stands the only other GK on the senior books is even younger and less experienced than EHR, but he’s been re-signed so it’s all progress either way for the fella. Ayr United were in fourth place and in line for a promotion playoff when last season came to a sudden pandemic-related halt, though the playoffs weren’t contested in the end with only the league champs given promotion. Heaps to build off though.

On the bench as Ayr lost 2-1 at Hamilton Academical, in Scottish League Cup (starts as a pool format).

So looks like Hare-Reid will be backup keeper again this season.

George Stanger was an unused sub for Hamilton.

https://us.soccerway.com/matches/2020/10/10/scotla...

Scottish lower leagues, including Championship (2nd tier) where Ayr play, start their seasons this weekend.

Maybe HA will loan Stanger out to a lower league club again.

Continues his role as backup keeper at Ayr United.

Has now sat on the pine for 75 Scottish Championship (2nd tier) games over 2.5 seasons, without getting a league game.

Ayr are 6th, 2 points off the promotion playoffs (teams 2nd to 4th).

Hearts have a pretty comfortable 5 point league lead, and I imagine are favourites to grab the automatic promotion spot back to the SPL.
