I thought the olympics were considered a senior contest (despite being mostly age group) and therefore players who played in it were locked to the national team.

Curious as to whether anyone has an understanding of the actual rules on this? Or a link to some rules I can read? The FIFA statutes make this about as clear as mud.

Yes he is locked in for New Zealand. The rules changed for September last year so it’s now any competitive game over the age of 21, so Cacace, Bell, Champness etc are all now locked in.

Article 9, point 2 b III (Commentary on the Regulations for Eligibility to Play for Association Teams) states that a request for a change of association will only be granted if the following conditions are met: “The player was under 21 years of age at the time of his last appearance in a match in an official competition of any division of football for his current association.”

Under these new rules Tyler Boyd would not have been able to change, as he had more than 3 AWs caps.

Singh is not (as he has not played a senior competitive international for NZ, nor a game since the rule change) so in theory could still play for India.
