Paul Hurst will take his side to Boston United on Tuesday night for a friendly game. With a blank weekend for the Mariners the Town boss is keen to give some of his squad some 'game time'. Speaking of the game, Hurst said: “Some of the lads that need game time will be playing in this game. It will be a nice test for us.” And Town fans will get a chance to see New Zealand-er Hamish Watson in action again. The striker did come on for the closing minutes of the recent Woking game but he is set to get a full game under his belt as the Town boss takes another look at the player. The gaffer said: “I look forward to having a look at him against different opposition. I need to see him in proper games. “He's done well so far. He played on Wednesday in a practice game and scored. He's fitted in brilliantly and is beginning to look a bit fitter as well.” The striker has signed a short term deal with the Mariners and Hurst says that there are no plans to extend that deal just yet. He said:“ We'll run as we are. We'll speak at various points and see where we are going. At this moment in time there are no plans to end the deal at a specific date.” Read more at http://www.grimsby-townfc.co.uk/news/article/town-take-on-boston-2129466.aspx#v5Bu7is9eJiG6GEQ.99

'PAUL Hurst says Hamish Watson has proved himself to be a ‘very, very good finisher’ since joining Grimsby Town.

That’s why the Mariners boss was so surprised to see the Kiwi’s one-on-one effort saved by the Boston keeper in Tuesday night’s 4-0 friendly victory at York Street.'

Good to see he's getting some opportunities over there. Just the one appearance so far it seems.

After being on the bench for the league games vs. Telford on Nov. 29 and Forest Green Rovers Dec. 19, not even on the bench for the last two league games vs. Macclesfield on the 26th and Lincoln City on the 28th.

Seems the manager has not been impressed enough to include him in the first team squad.

Just one appearance as a 91st minute sub vs. Woking on Nov. 25

In all fairness, Grimsby is the sort of club players get loaned to. If they farm him out, he'd be better off back in the ASBP.

Not so inspiring to be loaned out by a Conference National (fifth tier) club.

The gaffer's talking of loaning him to another Conference National side or even possibly loaning him to a sixth tier club.

Still, you have to start somewhere and if he impresses on loan, it could give his chances at Grimsby a boost.

They just don't see him as ready yet for a first team place when they have proven strikers coming in on loan and in the Jan. window.

From the article above:

Hurst told the Telegraph: "We would like to keep Hamish at the club, and hope that he will stay with us.

"But we have an eye on getting him out on loan maybe, and then getting him some game time.

"Hamish is a very young man, and it will do him the world of good to get out there and get some games.

"If we do, it's ideal that we get him out as high as possible really, as it would be a more realistic test for him.

"But if Hamish has to go to the league below to play, then ultimately that will benefit him and us.

"We want to assess him and, if the opportunity arose to go and watch him play, that's great because he certainly has got something."

With the January transfer window in full swing, Hurst is currently on the lookout to bolster the Town ranks.

Loan striker Ollie Palmer has already arrived on a one-month deal from Mansfield, and is expected to push for a starting place.

TWO Grimsby Town fringe players have been sent out on loan to get more game-time under their belts.

Hamish Watson and Caine Winfarrah will both temporarily leave Blundell Park on one-month loan deals.

Watson will join Gainsborough Trinity

Made his debut vs Hyde FC
