Bromley snares top contract in Norway

Hannah Bromley's first job is her dream job.

The New Plymouth woman has scored a contract to play professional football in Norway.

"It's been an ongoing process for the last month and a half, but it's gone through and I leave for Norway on Wednesday," said the specialist centre back, who represented New Zealand in the Fifa women's World Cup in China in 2007. Norway finished fourth at the tournament while New Zealand was winless from its three pool games.

"It's a pretty good deal and it's awesome to come straight out of university and get my first job. So I'm very lucky and pretty happy my first job is my dream job."

Without wanting to talk figures, Bromley said the pay was "not too bad".

"I'm not so sure how it will work out with the quite high taxes they have over there, but it's definitely enough to live on and a bit more."

Bromley has signed with IF Flora, a team based in Tromso in northern Norway to play in the 12-team Toppserien league, the women's top league in Norway.

IF Flora has a training camp in Turkey in February and a tournament in Spain in March before the competition kicks off.

Bromley said her new job in Norway would involve a lot of travel to matches in the competition, which runs from April through to November.

"Most of the teams we play mean we have to fly to our games."

Bromley has been on a university sports scholarship in the United States for the past four years.

She graduated from the Central State Connecticut University last year with a degree in communications, majoring in public relations.

During her time there she played for the Connecticut University division one football team, and for semi-professional teams during the summer.

Bromley arrived back in New Zealand from the United States via Canada early this month.

On her way home, Bromley spent a few days training with the national women's team in Auckland.

Bromley said Norway officials had given her the green light to play for New Zealand again if selected.

Bromley took time out from her holiday at home in New Plymouth to head down to Peringa Park on Sunday for a pre-season kick around with members of the Peringa Football Club.
