Whether he is good enough for a pro contract is for a different debate. All coaches have things they look for and there will be a coach that will offer him a pro contract out there I am sure. Ricki gave Totori a pro contract. I think its safe to say that most people on this forum would not have however Ricki saw something he wanted in him.

Of the occasions I have seen him, he has not shown anything that would suggest he is as good as or better than other players in the u20s. I am unsure of his age and if he is eligible or not but looking at him purely from an NZ playing perspective, it seems the only coach that picks him is Declan. I wonder why that is... Declan has produced some players but then like all coaches, there will be the ones that wont be much more than they are. In my opinion, he is one of those players.

look the bottom line is that this guy has a pro contract in the same league that two of our current all whites are going. That in my opinion sure as heck beats playing for an Australian state league side that some here believe warrants an all white call. Cudos to him 

Still got out of the NZFC... so doing better than most.

Perhaps he grew as a player at Zwolle, either way we have a DM training and hopefully playing in a professional environment. We should all be praying he comes good for the future of the All Whites.

I probably didn't word it well.. The kid has a professional contract in a "reasonable" league. To say he isnt "Good Enough" because he didn't make a NZ team is doing him a disservice.

declans position would be that nz, and nz age grade teams play ghastly football which weakens player development. Based on the prehistoric performance in Wellington in the u20 wc, its easy to agree with that assessment.

Whatever you do think about declan, I wish more youth coaching setups took notice of these ethics for young players:

As a Wakato United fan I remember Declan playing some "ghastly" football for us too.  I do like that sign very much.

Well I'm in doubt that he'd be eligible. He would need to hold Malaysian citizenship and I don't see how that's possible unless Declan was a Malaysian citizen when Harry was born which seems extremely doubtful, as Malaysia doesn't allow dual citizenship.

a) He was born on the territory of the relevant association

b) His biological mother or biological father was born on the territory of the relevant association

c) His grandmother or grandfather was born on the territory of the relevant association

d) He has lived continuously on the territory of the relevant association for at least two years.

You missed out the first part of that statute which says:

Any player who refers to art. 5 par. 1 to assume a new nationality and who has not played international football in accordance with art. 5 par. 2 shall be eligible to play for the new representative team only if he fulfils one of the following conditions:

The bolded part is key.

Article 5 (which is the base requirement for eligibility) states that you must hold permanent nationality of the country you wish to play for.

Under normal Malaysian citizenship law he's not eligible for citizenship (as far as I can tell), but maybe they'd grant it to him under some exceptional circumstance clause...

ahh I did, opps and you are right. Whats more Declan misses out by 3 years on automatic citizenship - if he was born before 1962 he'd have it but he was born in 1965. Saw something via Andrew Voerman today that FAM have said they won't be trawling overseas for players - so unless he moves there he won't be playing for them. He could easily pick up a contract over there though
