Congratulations to Harry Edge who has signed with the youth team at A-League champions Central Coast Mariners!! Harry chose Central Coast to play for former Ajax player Patrick Zwaanswijk. Patrick decided to sign Harry after receiving a recommendation from Ajax youth coaches who observed him during their time at Ole

Hmm interesting. Unless he has a Aussie passport, he will have to be on a senior deal to play in the NYL afaik.

CCM have their Academy side in the NSWPL that he could play for as a Kiwi but the wrong time of the year for that.

Oh joy, can't wait for the Edge related puns from 442 when he makes to the A-League.

Fantastic about passport then. He's a DM which we need. Hope he cracks first team in a few years

Jesse is the DM, whenever I've seen Harry he was in a more attacking role, and wasn't very good at it.

I rate Jesse, but Harry was pretty woeful whenever he wasn't injured for Melville and Waikato, he didn't really do anything of note and was a bit sloppy at times.

He may have improved truckloads since he left a few months ago (he may have even changed his position to DM?), but from what I've seen of him, he's not a top prospect and certianly won't even come close to national level.

Harry I think was a young boy in a body too big for him and I felt really needed to fit into that first and become more fluid and less cumbersome before making a good footballer. Ethan Galbraith reminded me of much the same. Once he matures into it, he may come right but like you, I would not have picked it. Even so, he's signed so shows what we know

Everyone was bagging Hamish Watson just six months ago. Look how everyone at the Nix is talking him up now. Can't say I have seen much of either Edge. What I saw of Jesse wasn't flash, so will trust N Bomb on this. Still if Ajax scouts are recommending him to the Mariners then perhaps yes he's come on in leaps and bounds

I thought Jesse was good at the u17 and didn't get any game time t the u20's so couldn't tell how he'd progressed.

Any news on his Birmingham trial??

For a while I thought he'd actually wangled  a trial with Arsenal u-21's not Birmingham u-21's !!!
Based on his Twitter account below - but on checking, he wasn't in the Arsenal u-21 squad.
Obviously he just went to the game whilst visiting family in London. No mention of any trials yet:

Yeah I rate Jesse actually, I think he gets a hard rap, as a DM he is pretty committed, makes some good tackles, runs a lot, tidy passer, not a world beater by any means but very solid.

Wonder if CCM could be a fall back for him? Would think CCM would take them both if available and non visa.

People need to realise very few New Zealander footballers are going to be world beaters, but every team even Man Utd needs their work horses, eg: Fletcher. Not saying that Fletcher wasn't a good player but he wasn't a world beater.

Uh yeah I'm well aware of that, it's a figure of speech

Has Edge got a youth or full contract, or missed out?

Central Coast Mariners 2013/14 National Youth League Squad: Adrian Vlastelica, Daniel McFarlane, David Bradasevic (Gk), Dillon Vorster, Dominic Ferguson, Jacob Esposito, Jesse Curran, Joshua Bingham, Joshua Forbes, Lachlan Everett, Liam O’Dell, Nathan Verity, Patrick Dixon, Steve Whyte, Tonu Liiband (Gk)

Perhaps he's one of these:

"Zwaanswijk has a further 11 train-on players he utilises for sessions on the Central Coast and in Sydney’s northern suburbs. Currently, the Mariners’ Foxtel NYL side trains twice a week in Tuggerah, and once at Knox Grammar School in Wahroonga."

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Signed him sight unseen. Always a terrible idea

On recommendation from Ajax youth coaches apparently yes

I think the point is he could be signed and not have a contract. If it doesn't cost anything to cut him it isn't a terrible idea.

Third division actually. God knows what these lads are doing, Jesse at least is good enough to continually make rep teams, he would have least been in the mix for the Tee Dubs as well this year - surely you try get noticed there instead of going to some lower division, finacnially-strife semi-pro teams in Europe.

Read his twitter. He's a kid from Hamilton living the sweet life in Venice ffs. Dream about it.
