Yeah, I don't know what the drink driving limit is in the US (but if it's anything like their speeding laws it's lax), but here I have no sympothy for anyone who gets a DUI, even at the lower limit you have to be uncomfortably drunk to be over.

Selfishly, he was lucky that no one was seriously injured because a lot of countries wont grant visas for someone who has a conviction and that will limit his ability to play international football.

He could also lose visa as i dont think he has citizenship or residency etc. USA and canada take it pretty seriously. Got no shot of entering Canada with a DUI

Crazy that the Timbers road record has gotten worse during the offseason.

He can enter Canada with a DUI.

Would need to apply for a TRP.

Before we throw him to the dogs remember that the sobriety test in the US is bollox.

They don't make you blow into a bag etc but instead make you walk a line. He may have had only one drink (could have been loads more too).

He might be perfectly fine so until we know the full details best not judge.

He's not just been charged with DUI but also reckless driving and reckless endangerment. Also have read that he did refuse the breath test so sounds like he maybe in decent trouble http://www.espnfc.com/portland-timbers/story/29810...

Surely their walk in a straight line / say the alphabet backwards test is the same as our breath test and just an indication, if you fail it you get a blood test.

I would be very concerned if a top goal keeper wasn't coordinated enough to walk in a straight line whilst sober.

Of course it depends on a lot of things like when you ate, your weight, metabolism, etc. But a guy I know got pulled over after a night of hard spirits, he was pretty much legless and passed the test even with the lower restrictions.

Portland Timbers goalie Jake Gleeson pleads no contest to drunken driving, enters diversion.

Basically if he doesn't fudge up for a year he'll be all good and they'll remove "drunken driving" from his record. "If he doesn't, he faces a maximum of one year in jail and a fine up to $6,250, court documents show." Surely he's learnt from this mistake though so I can't see him doing it again. Also considering the circumstances in which it ended up happening (after missing out on CONCACAF Champions League playoffs and MLS playoffs in the very same week), surely such a set of circumstances so annoying to him won't happen again.

Glad to see this happening. Seems like he's worked so hard and was just on the cusp of some real success. Hope to see him giving Marinovic competition for the AWs keeping gloves soon.

Gleeson won't be suspended for the start of the new season. Gleeson pleaded no contest and entered an alcohol diversion program. Gleeson will also separately be taking a lead role in a new partnership between the City of Portland and the Timbers that supports Vision Zero, an initiative focused on promoting road safety.

Do we think Gleeson should be in the All Whites or are we happy for Hudson not to pick him because of his drunk driving? He's clearly good enough to be there and you could probably make a case for him being the starter.

Maybe we should ask this question to Hudson instead of asking about Tommy Smith. Yeah I know smith has had all this stuff about him being committed, but to be honest. I'm getting bored. I wanna know more about why players aren't getting selected

Portland won their second game of the MLS with an away win over LA Galaxy.

With the Portland defense limiting the Galaxy to just two shots on target throughout 90 minutes, Portland goalkeeper Jake Gleeson was only forced to make two saves in the contest, including a strong right-handed parry deep in stoppage time. With the Galaxy pushing numbers forward late in the game, Gleeson reacted quickly to push midfielder Jose Villareal’s close-range header away from danger in the 94th minute of play, preserving Portland’s first shutout of the season.

Hardly a 'hard hitting interview' with unfortunately no talk of that drink driving incident or the AWs. Not a hint of an American accent, after a few years now in the US!

Portland had a 4-2 win over Houston today, with Gleeson in goal..

Can somewhat understand him not being picked for Fiji games with MLS season only having just started, and this league like A League playing through FIFA windows. However in my view Hudson must pick Gleeson for the Confeds Cup.

Out of interest, with today's starting Timbers eleven - Gleeson's team mates included, 2 Costa Ricans, 2 Argentinians, & 1 Colombian.

Houston looked like they had even more Hispanics playing.

So big Jake, must be picking up a bit of Espanol. A handy backup to Rojas as the AWs interpreter!

Is there really much to talk about re the drink driving? It happened, he said he's sorry, he's doing the education or whatever he has to. zzzzz

Agree, however some quick comment wouldn't have hurt. I'm not proud of it, but when young I drove at least once over the limit, as would no doubt a few others on this forum. Just luck wasn't caught.

So if it is reason Hudson is not picking him, would be just plain ridiculous. Just need AH to explain why he hasn't been picked (and others like Boyd). If is because the MLS season has only started, then in a way fair enough.

But of all the AWs keepers, he's clearly playing at the highest level, yet he hasn't played a game for AWs under Hudson. So the quicker he plays for AWs the better, being a year of such massive games  for national side.

Gleeson on the bench as Timbers can spanked 0-3 away to San Jose.

You'd think based on that heavy loss, a good chance he will be back in starting eleven next week. However his form doesn't seem to have been impressive this MLS season to date, compared to his breakout season last year. Maybe the hip flexor injury has been hampering him.

Gleeson back between sticks for Portland as they draw 1-1 with Atlanta.

Feel Hudson has to pick him for Confeds Cup, as the keeper playing consistently at highest level. Bit random maybe but he is also plays with and against Latino players weekly in the MLS.  Atlanta by my count had 5 of their starting eleven from Central/South America, plus an Argentinian coach.

http://au.soccerway.com/matches/2017/05/14/united-states/mls/portland-timbers-mls/atlanta-united/2394088/

That must be worth something come Sth America playoff games later this year.

Give him at least one game at Confeds Cup ahead of Marinovic I say.
