Great stuff for the lad to get on for his debut.

Possibly another couple of games for him in the offing over the next couple of weeks after a serious collision takes out their starting keeper Brad Collins - Apparently a lot of blood, a broken nose and a possible concussion, going off social media.

They played 14 minutes of injury time at the backend and were down to 10 men from the 67th minute, so he pretty much played a full 45! An all action debut indeed.

From Flying Kiwis, about his League One debut on the weekend.

Jamie Searle: “First thing's first, everyone hopes Brad is alright. It wasn't the nicest of collisions, I hope he's alright. It's not the way I wanted to make my debut, but it's happened and you've just got to get on with it. It's hard when you're sitting on the bench. You do switch off a little bit but you're still engaged in the game, watching what is happening, how they're playing.

As soon as something like that happens you don't really get time to think, which is the main thing. You're just thrown in at the deep end which is what I prefer. I don't think. When I don't think, I seem to do better. Essentially I've got to go out there and do what I do every day. We work every single day to have these opportunities and when they come around you've got to take them. Obviously, there's still lots of things to work on. But, look, I'm happy with the three points and a clean sheet, definitely.”

Barnsley (6th) travel to fellow League One club, Port Vale (10th) in EFL Trophy.

Searle chance of making the bench at least. His only minutes in League One, remain coming on as a replacement in 3-0 win verus Cambridge. But he's 3rd choice keeper at the moment.

Searle has actually been reserve keeper on the bench for Barnsley's last 4 matches in League One, back to 12th Feb.
https://us.soccerway.com/matches/2023/02/25/england/league-one/barnsley-fc/derby-county-fc/3810030/

Note League One plays through the March FIFA window. Barnsley are currently 6th (last playoff spot), 6 pts clear of Wycombe Wanderers in 7th, and 9 pts below Waine's Plymouth (2nd)

From Flying Kiwis.

Might as well mention that Jamie Searle was on the bench again for Barnsley in League One. He’s made four matchday squads in the month of February since Jack Walton left for Luton at the end of the last transfer window. Harry Isted did join on loan back the other way
so Searle is still the third choice for at least the rest of this season but number one Bradley Collins has been out injured lately.

So Barnsley (4th) will go into the League One playoffs. They will play either Bolton or Derby County.

Searle last in a match day squad on 12th March.

Barnsley played with 10 men from 49th min so brave effort from them. So nearly took it to pens.

Hopefully one of their keepers moves on so Searle goes up the pecking order. Or maybe it’s time for him to play in the 5th or 6th tier NL like Tzanev and Crocombe have done in the past. Senior mens football. He’s really only played age group stuff to date

Good to see Searle get some minutes under his belt. Even if it is just blowing out some pre season cobwebs.

Got the first 45 minutes in a 2-1 (1-0 H/T) win over Worksop Town.

Hopefully gets him closer to at least a regular bench spot in League Two. Forest Green (dead last) were relegated from League One last season, conceding a whopping 89 goals in 46 games.

At the moment as keepers they have a 35 yr old journeyman (been around various lower league clubs) plus a young 19 yr kid who's come across from Ireland, so Searle must have a good shout out to be their starting keeper. Got humped 5-1 by Waine's Plymouth in a warmup last week.

Seems like a plethora of Kiwi keepers in the UK. What is Marinovic up to?

Great business all round. Surely he has the starting spot over the others. Unless that 19yr old is a gun. Hope he can kick on and take FGR back to L1.

Lost 5-1 in a pre-season to Ben Waine's Argyle in a pre-season game the other day, so not good signs

Via Flying Kiwis, a longer 3 min chat with Searle.

https://youtu.be/Uvjd0bSYjT8

Notable undertone to this Jamie Searle move is that Barnsley had apparently already been trying to sign Corey O’Keeffe from Forest Green in a move that was confirmed a few days after Searle’s own. This one isn’t necessarily connected to that one but it seems likely that those conversations will have helped grease the wheels. Barnsley sold keeper Brad Collins to Coventry last week but had also brought in two more GKs hence Searle was allowed to leave for a better gig. This will be the fourth club that the Waikato keeper has signed with since he moved to England. One year in the Aston Villa academy. Two with Swansea City. Up to first team footy with Barnsley. Now it’s Forest Green Rovers.

FGR Goalkeeping Coach Dan Connor: “Jamie has the physical and psychological profile we’ve been looking for. He comes here with ambition, international pedigree and with youth on his side - and we’re all looking forward to working with him.”

FGR manager David Horseman: “Jamie is a goalkeeper with high potential. He’s hungry to play games and his personality type really fits with the group. He’s been at some big clubs and has played under some good coaches. We’re really excited to have him with us.”

Coincedence, but Forest Green with a Kiwi CEO!
Like Searle also from the BOP by the sounds of it. Would be one of the more interesting small football clubs to be CEO of.

Straight in the XI as Forest Green take on Championship outfit West Brom. Good test for the lad  as we get closer to the season proper.

Hopefully lots of minutes coming his way this season too.
