Supersport lost 1st leg of CAF Confederation Cup final to Mazembe in Zaire (Congo).

Brockie played 73 mins. That's not a bad effort considering he was in Lima a few days ago. I hate to imagine the flights required to get from there to some place called Lubumbashi in Zaire!!

The less glamorous side of pro football.

Saw that flights comment. Got curious...

Seems its Lima to São  Paulo then to Johannesburg.  Start to finish 24 hours then the drive, hour(ish) back to Pretoria.

Johannesburg to Lubumbashi was probably on a scheduled flight. There are six a week and it takes two and a half hours.

One South African report talks about Brockie and strong coffee.

By the way I understand Brocks went out of his way to thank (on behalf of the AWs team) the small White Noise contingent in Lima. He may always be a polarising figure re whether he deserved to be selected for the national team - but he is a good bastard, and I expect like Falloon he brings the fun.

Actually thought he did okay, apart from the air swing when he came on as a sub in the 2nd leg. Threatened with Wood a few times, and maybe the twin striker setup is worth a look by any future AWs coach.

Even got a mention by the BBC the other day

DR Congo these days...actually it’s been like that since 1997. Yea that would have been an interesting trip for sure.

Anyone else be up for Brockie to come back to the Nix at some point? I know he was dogshark half the time but he's scoring a fudge tonne of goals at the moment and it would be a bit of a laugh. Would never want him as first choice though, but would rather we had him than fecking Watson

There's a slight difference in the remuneration expectations there though...

Under our current system he would be a good pick up... but we can't afford him.

I would rather he give the UK a crack - surely with his record, there must be a team or two willing to take a punt on him,

Wouldn't have a clue and he wasn't among the top 10 earners, however he must be on more than he'd be getting in the A-League otherwise I doubt he would've moved in the first place.

Also, there have been numerous transfer rumors about him as other big SA teams tried to snap him so surely he's in line to make even more money soon - and given his age, he'll probably want to make the most of if before it's too late.

This might give a glimpse into what kind of offers he is receiving (although we don't know what his current salary is)

“But we aren’t going to be bulldozed, not by Jeremy and not by any other football club. I could hand in a request to my bosses today for a 200 percent increase in my salary and they will send me out of the door. But I still have to go to work tomorrow and be a professional"

Looks like Jeremy Brockie to Mamelodi Sundowns is almost done. Makes a lot of sense as it means he stays in Pretoria with his family. Also, Sundowns are the moneybags club of South Africa, backed as they are by one of the country's richest men in mining magnate, Patrice Motsepe.

The article I found can be read here.

Wasn't included in the squad that travelled down to Durban for the game at Golden Arrows today. Supersport lost 1-0. Looks like the move is close.

Since I'm a curious bastard, I looked it up:

The MTN8 cup is made up of the top eight teams that finished in that order at the close of the league the previous season.

The Nedbank Cup is basically South Africa's version of the FA Cup.

The CAF Confeds is modeled on the old UEFA Cup (according to Wiki), however it's interesting to note that apparently 'clubs are invited to participate' and that "the domestic cup winners from all 55 CAF member associations are eligible to participate. The third-placed club in the domestic league of the top twelve placed CAF member associations also qualify" so to me this cup retained an element of the old Cup Winners' Cup which was sadly scrapped at the turn of the century.

5 mins off the bench as Sundowns beat Baroka 2-1.

With 5 games left in the PSL season, Sundowns have a 4 point league lead over Orlando Pirates.
