That’s a good move. Very strong on the ball, dribbling from the right into a dangerous central position and a very nice disguised pass.
It’s a goal that he’s had a large part of creating there. Not always the case with assists!

United have picked up Aussie Daniel Bennie on loan from QPR, so more competition for places for Randall.

Buggar, Bennie was looking quite promising in the hoops too.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Randall full game in a 1-1 draw.

Very shaky first league outing. Put himself in good positions, just not being physical enough in a few cases to win the ball. Missed a chance in the 84th minute where he was 1 on 1 with the keeper with a pathetic attempt straight into the keepers hand - United fans not exactly happy with that (nor are the multitude of Celtic fans who are watching hoping for a Rangers loss).

Hoping this hasn't rattled his confidence because the areas he was weak were definitely caused by nerves and he was very quick in counter attacking situations so can definitely see him adjusting to the Scottish game, just don't need his confidence zapped in game 1

Edit: I'm moving to Scotland in November so will be able to watch many of these matches involving Kiwis and provide some deeper analysis (hopefully make life a little easier for coochiee). Should be able to get to some Motherwell and maybe Killie matches as well I hope.

Randall did have the assist for Lachie Rose's early goal. If you can set your VPN to the UK you can watch it below.

Early cross whipped in, and Rose awkwardly steers it goalward
An ex ALM starting quartet. Rawlins & Randall full games. Sapsford & Rose off in the 2nd half. Then another Aussie Bennie on for Rose.
Cam Devlin 82 mins for Rangers

From the coach
“But I can't get away from the fact that we miss that glorious chance at the end where Jesse Randall is through one-on-one and you're thinking that's the moment.

"He's apologised to the group, but I can't be over critical of the player; I think he's had a terrific game. He's a really, really talented young prospect. His overall performance was excellent, and I'm sure he'll be thinking about it into the small hours.”

Well he won't make the same mistake twice. Looked a jaded brain decsion to try the dink, late on.

Next time he'll put his laces through it. He must have been playing okay up to then to stay on ahead of Sapsford & Rose (who had both been subbed).

Go to 5 mins in the highlights, to see Randall's bad moment when through on the keeper.

He panicked and just wanted to get the ball away from him. It's the stress that got him because his playing against "Rangers". His looking down instead of looking at the goalkeeper.

He will be fine. Totally understandable.

I always wondered how he would have been remembered by AFC fans if Sydney had equalised and eventually gone onto win that grand final in extra time.

That blaze over the bar of his in the later part of the game to potentially make it two zip was also something.

It’s just as well they won.

Auckland will rise once more

He had a good game, learn from this and I think he’ll be fine. Was sad for him that he missed that chance but that’s what happens so often in football. Always fun seeing both of them stutter though, should be a good season.

4-0 loss, ouch. Played 73 minutes & was one of the last subbed, so must have still provided something?

Listened to podcast about this match.

Not much to be said about Randall.

At the end of the day, it's the second best team in Scotland's third biggest city so a few pumpings are to be expected
