Sure looks like it has damaged Bells chances as well doesn't it? Not like he has been offered professional contracts already, played for his national team or is one of the top potential draft picks if he decides to go the MLS route. /s

He has a year of study left to complete, but the University of Virignia lets athletes return to finish their scholarship at any stage of their career. He is 99.99% turning pro now.

Joe has shown that he is an incredible athlete and talent who has succeeded at every stage of his career. I agree, this worked for him and he has been able to not only maintain form but improve, which is a credit to his work ethic too, as well as his single minded determination. I do agree with comments on the standard of play in the US college system, and it is all power to him for his continued growth. I recall how well he was playing in the national League when he left the Phoenix, and so enjoy watching him play still.

(The semi and final are the only two matches of college soccer I've ever seen, but) I'd say it looked more intense, athleticism/fitness wise, than the national league, though worse in terms of technical ability.
I'm not sure there are other players performing at a similar level that translates to international pro success that aren't on NZF's radar. Any names?
Edit: Five Kiwis made United Soccer Coaches' all-region teams: Bell, Noah Billingsley, Alex Greive, Marcel Kampman, Sebastian Schact.
Billingsley is on radar for the All Whites and OlyWhites; Greive was at an U20 camp earlier this year.
Bell and Billingsley went on to make United Soccer Coaches' all-America teams – Bell the first team, Billingsley the third team. Making that cut is probably an indication of having an international/professional future ahead moreso than making an all-region team.
Bell wins another award, hopefully maybe one or two more to come. He was listed on the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-South Region first team. This means he will then be eligible for Scholar All-America Honours that will be announced Thursday our time.
That is just shows that going to Uni has been a success for him without hurting his sporting chances, considering he won ACC Midfielder of the Year, was listed as a First Team All-American and is one of three finalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy for best player in the country for which the winner will be announced 3 Jan 2020.

There is, Americans love their awards and part of the problem is they have things like first, second and third all American. Really it should only be first for awards, none of that takes away from some that Bell is winning though, like the academic ones showing he's doing really well studying while training and playing. Then the decent football ones like ACC, as one of the top divisions in soccer in the states, midfielder of the year and then being in the final three for the MAC player of the year. That's all divisions, all colleges.

The TDS Mock MLS Draft has the other nominees Robbie Robinson at #1 & Dylan Nealis at #4 for the draft. Joe not mentioned in first round prediction . I've read his International status will certainly be major concern for some teams & really depends on each teams individual roster for an International space.

The majority of draft prospects are NCAA college seniors who have exhausted their college eligibility. Generation adidas players and non-collegiate international players are also eligible for selection in the SuperDraft. Clubs may nominate players for the League's Draft-Eligible List, and only players from that list may be selected.
