Midtjylland beat OB on pens in the Danish Cup final. Finished 0-0 ET/NT.
Joel King (ex SFC) on the bench for Midtjylland. He got called up Socceroos from Jan for their later stage World Cup qualifiers, and seems likely to make the squad cut for UAE & possible Peru playoffs.

Anyway that Danish Cup final result, means Brøndby automatically qualify for the Euro Conference League qualifiers, so no playoff against Viborg needed, and Bell now free to travel to Spain to link up with the AWs.

AaB now playoff against Viborg for the final Conference League qualifier spot

Another AWs DM starts the Danish Superliga from the pine. On the bench as Brondby host AGF

Have Brondby made a new signing in the middle of the park or is Joe just a little out of favour at the minute for the starting berth?
29 Jul 12:12
yeah, how the heck can he be on the bench at brondby?

It’s also how he finished last season to be fair, as a bench player. From memory is a young international from one of the Balkan countries (Serbia?) playing ahead of him. Covered in last week’s Flying Kiwis

Denmark is a step up from Norway.

Bell looked a little out of sorts for NZ to around the same time. A bit of a slump in form. whilst the other player maybe had a good patch.

Up to him to earn it back.

Like FCK, Brøndby are 1 win/2 loss from their first 3 league games.

They have Basel midweek in a UEFA Conference League qualifier. Games thick & fast to start the season.

2-1 Basel at the half, Bell with the Brøndby assist.

Basel with all the play early on, bagged a pen, then Brøndby dragged their way back into it - Basel responding instantly in first-half added time
12 Aug 01:27
2-2 on aggregate, eventually went to pens where Basel won it.
Bell played the full 120 by the looks of it

It looks like that was the fourth penalty shootout Joe Bell has been involved in in his career.

Against Georgetown in the NCAA College Cup final. Loss.
Against Colombia U20s at the U20 World Cup RO16. Loss.
Against Japan U23s at the Olympics quarterfinals. Loss.
Against Basel in the UECL third qualifying round. Loss.

I think he might be cursed.

Finishes as 2-0 win for Brøndby. Joe Bell played the full 90 minutes, playing as wide-ish 8 in a diamond midfield, just as he did against Basel on Friday morning. His 5th consecutive start, having not missed a minute in any of those five, hopefully alleviating any worries he was dropping down the pecking order. Looks to have been a fairly dominant performance, Brøndby out-passed Odense by over 300 passes (Bell himself completed 74 passes), and had almost double the xG.

The first goal was a penalty scored by captain Josip Radosevic, a bit of redemption for him after his penalty crashed off the bar in the shootout against Basel. The second goal was scored by Oscar Schwartau, who, after becoming their youngest ever player earlier this season, became Brøndby's youngest ever goal-scorer at 16 years and 89 days. In the all time Superligaen history, only København's Roony Bardghji was a younger goal-scorer (16 years and 13 days), when he scored in November last year.

The win keeps Brøndby in 9th, level on points with FC København, though with no European football their schedule will become considerably lighter, so they should start climbing up the table. Odense stay bottom on one point. 21 year-old, former Sydney left-back Joel King played 78 minutes for Odense, while former Celta Vigo, Valencia, Atletico and 43-cap Danish midfielder Daniel Wass made his second debut for Brøndby, having first left the club in 2011.

Joel King is now a Socceroo. Reasonable chance to play against Bell in September and go to WC.

Kiwi Superliga derby. Who would have thought a month ago, Satmenic would be more likely to start than Bell. Brondby (9th) host FCK (7th)

https://us.soccerway.com/matches/2022/10/16/denmark/superliga/brondby-if/fc-kobenhavn/3795532/

Edit - And that is what happens. Stamenic starts & Bell on the bench.
Matt Ryan riding the pine for FCK.

Edit 2 - Brøndby lead 1-0 at HT.

Edit 3 - a 1-1 draw. Stamenic off at 69 mins and his replacement with a very late 98th min equaliser. Brondby down to 10 men a few mins earlier. Bell an unused sub.

DBU Pokalen  tie & 3rd tier Aarhus Fremad host Brondby

https://us.soccerway.com/matches/2022/10/19/denmark/dbu-pokalen/aarhus-fremad/brondby-if/3957421/

Edit - as you'd hope Bell gets a start.

3-0 down to a third-tier team that's like the Phoenix losing to Karori men's team

Finished a 4-0 hiding. Bell off at 64 mins (3-0)

4 team mates were all dragged off together in the first half at 39 mins (2-0)! Coach obviously not happy
