The younger generation wouldn't realise the extent to which Smeltz was truly a mediocre goalscorer in the old Aussie NSL 1999 - 2004 for Brisbane strikers, Adelaide City and Adelaide United - he managed only eight goals. Was aged 18 - 22 at the time.

He wouldn't even have aroused much interest in the Football Kingz.
