Ljungskile with a super important 2-1 win. 93rd min winner. Sims in goal. No Fay or Ingham. Ljungskile up to 10th, out of the drop zone on GD. Two rounds left.
Ljungskile lose 2-1, and drop to 11th. Sims in goal, Fay & Ingham unused subs.
Crazily teams the 5 teams 11th to 15th (2nd last) are all on 31 pts. One round to go, so nail biting as to whether Ljungskile will be relegated or not. Bottom 3 teams automatically go down.
Good recognition for the lad, and an excellent opportunity to showcase himself.
Hopefully he's moving on from Swedish 3rd tier football next season. No doubt it's been a fantastic experience for him as he's been building his career as a young keeper, but seeing the likes of Henry Gray at Ipswich Town and more recently Dublin Boon at Roda JC, those guys seem to have propelled themselves to somewhat brighter lights.
Good recognition. About a year ago Sims reportedly trained with a couple of UK clubs after the 2022 Swedish season finished. So yeah he will be on the radar of some outfits further up the football pyramid.
Him, Paulsen & Gray the keepers for Paris next year? Others like Boon & Scott Morris (apparently trialling in the UK) in the mix
Yup have followed his progress as he's been looking to make moves. It can't be a bad thing building his CV with first team minutes though, so hats off to him for trekking to Sweden and making a go of it. I would be surprised if he's their for a third season though.
And I didn't even include Paulsen, but absolutely there's another one! And who knows what will happen with Scott Morris over at Stoke, so will just wait and see with that one.
We as a country sure do seem to be going through a great period of producing some decent goalkeepers at the minute - Would be great if we could get some more wingers and defenders coming through too! 🥲
He's been on trial at Swedish Allsvenskan (top tier) side GAIS of late, and more recently it sounds like he's been at Danish 1.Division (Second tier) outfit Hobro IK.
Can't say he sits around waiting for things to happen can you? That's several known about trials over the past couple of seasons. Hopefully it results in a move for the lad. 🤞
Otto Ingham apparently signed a two year deal with Ljungskile before the start of last season, but seemingly has joined Unattached FC in the off-season. Although it does look like he's travelled back to Europe just recently.
More Kees Sims news, and it looks like he's on his way to GAIS in the Swedish Allsvenskan! Another exceptional move on the Kiwi goalkeeping front, and a step up from 3rd tier to 1st tier football for Sims once it's confirmed.
GAIS were 2nd in the Superettan (2nd tier) in 2023, earning promotion to the Allsvenskan for 2024. Sims will likely be understudy to 31 yr old Swede Mërgim Krasniqi who played in goal for all 30 Superettan games in 2023. So a season on the pine for Sims at a much higher level in 2024? GAIS play out of a 19K stadium and have strong past Kiwi connection. Dan Keat, Steven Old & Craig Henderson all played there at one point together, over 2016 & 2017. https://us.soccerway.com/teams/sweden/goteborgs-atlet---ildrottssallskap/2169/
FYI - minnow club Värnamo (ex club of Francis de Vries & Joel Stevens) who had meteoric rise from 3rd tier to the Allsvenskanare still in the Swedish top flight. They finished 5th in 2023, ith an almost entirely local Swedish squad.
Sweden maybe FDV's best route back to high level football, unless Auckland FC show some interest soon. Shame he had such a bad knee injury. With his height he might have been able to transistion across to being a left sided CB option for the AWs.
Otto Ingham moves from Ljungskile SK to AFC Eskilstuna. Swapping the Ettan Södra for the Ettan Norra.
Eskilstuna relegated from the 2nd tier Superettan last term, so hopefully they'll be looking to bounce straight back up this season.
Might pay to just change the title of this thread to Otto Ingham | AFC Eskilstuna seeing as Kees Sims has his own thread for GAIS, and Oli Fay is back at Auckland United now.
Jesse Edge is at IFK Malmo in the 5th tier - Div 3 Södra Götaland (1️⃣Allsvenskan ➡️ 2️⃣Superettan ➡️ 3️⃣Div 1 ➡️ 4️⃣Div 2 ➡️ 5️⃣Div 3) So some proper pub stuff down that level. But he's a football scout now too, so that'd be how he fills his spare time. They kick off their league campaign next weekend. If you're after some top info on Swedish football, especially the lower tier stuff - https://www.svenskfotboll.se/ Use the search function, it's a brilliant information source, a lot of detail going right down the tiers. 👌
Torslanda lose 0-1 to Angelholm. Harry Edge, Owen Parker-Price & Dominic Wooldridge all with full games. Sean Bright almost. He got sent off at 88 mins!
The Declan Edge effect for Torslanda - The results will soon turn around for him and his Kiwi cohort if they can keep this up. I have seen a few reports that they've been a little unlucky not to have picked up more points.
The columns at the top are possession, passes per match, and passing accuracy per match.
God it's hard work doing this Coochiee, you can have your responsibilities back next weekend. 😅
Anyway, couple of games overnight in the Swedish 3rd tier.
Torslanda were only a few minutes from recording their first victory of the season, only to concede in the 93rd minute to go and draw at home with Cameron Hogg's Trollhättan FC.
Full 90 for all Kiwis involved - Cameron Hogg for Trollhättan + Dominic Wooldridge, Harry Edge and Owen Parker-Price for Torslanda. Sean Bright was suspended for this one for his red card the other week. Parker-Price with an assist on his side's second goal too. In the other match that could have had a Kiwi presence this morning, AFC Eskilstuna also threw away points late on in another 2-2 draw. No Otto Ingham for Eskilstuna though, didn't even make the bench either. Not too sure what the status is on that one, but can possibly go down as injury/illness related given his ever presence in the squad so far this season.
