There are exceptions, but let’s be honest, it’s a stepping stone to the NZ Premiership for most.

No Kiwi MLS draft prospects in 2019?

Looks like no Kiwis involved.

Not sure if any Kiwis are draft prospects in rounds 3 & 4.
that's a first for a while
no Hunter Ashworth?
no Hunter Ashworth?
Believe he has another year of NCAA eligibility, maybe even two.

How is that young fella from Hong Kong going since he left us?
How is that young fella from Hong Kong going since he left us?
Calvin Harris is at Wake Forest which is a very good football (soccer) school, won their division last two years and been in quarters or higher for National tournament. The 2019 season of soccer in States hasn't started, normally about August.
From this week's Flying Kiwis. Interesting that Michael Woud has been linked to Monaco.
JOE BELL – UNATTACHED (SORT OF)After two years or dominating for the University of Virginia and having captained the U20 men’s World Cup squad recently, not to mention playing absolutely outstanding there, Joe Bell has a lot of fans. There was a quote from Wynton Rufer in one of the papers that he’d had interest from Bundesliga clubs (Borussia Dortmund are the only one that’s been named although key to remember that interested does not equal offers – Michael Woud has had interest from Monaco too but that doesn’t mean that’ll happen).
So… how does Norway sound? Because Eliteserien club Viking have invited Joe Bell to trial at the side after his efforts at the U20 World Cup and he was there to have a geeze as Viking beat Lillestrøm 2-0 away in their latest game. Bell was outstanding as New Zealand beat Norway in that second game so no secrets as to when they spotted him. But he’s got at least a week to reinforce that opinion now.
Bjarne Berntsen, Viking coach, to Aftenposten: “There were several different people in our club who watched the World Cup. We discussed if there were some players we liked, and Joe Bell's name came early. He is a very exciting player and he was excited to come here. We have invited him to stay here and train with us for this week. He is already in Stavanger. Maybe Bell will stay more than one week. But we haven't concluded yet if we are offering him a professional contract.”
What’s funky about this is it proves that Bell is willing to go professional right now, rather than waiting until the end of his studies in the USA (meh, polish them off long distance over time, no worries). Which means that even if he doesn’t sign here, there’s a decent chance he signs somewhere on the back of that U20 World Cup performance. The Wellington Phoenix are on record as being interested in their old boy… but it looks like he’ll have much better offers which, to borrow a word from Mr Berntsen, is pretty exciting. Viking are probably a midtable team in Norway, although they were relegated in 2017 and are in their first year back in the top flight after bouncing straight back up with first division champions medals.
And following on from Buckingham's positive comments about Billingsley at RB, he's just been awarded Defender of the Year in the college Big West conference.
pants as a striker... but very promising as a RB. Is he eligible for the draft this year?
Noah Billingsley got a goal in his teams 4-0 win over 12th ranked St Marys in the second round of the NCAA National Soccer tournament.
Billingsley team UC Santa Barbara, won by golden goal (which they still use for overtime in the states) in their third round win over 5th ranked Indiana. Second team they have beaten that was a ranked opponent and quite an upset to beat Indiana at home, as they were on a 38 match unbeaten streak.
They will face either 4th-seeded Wake Forest or 13th-seeded Michigan in the quarter-finals

Hunter Ashworth and Will Gillingham also play there, so good Kiwi representation.
Looks like Noah is in the draft.
One pundit site has him at #15 pick (as a right back) after his excellent season with Santa Barbara.
Since his move to RB his form, and that of his college team really picked up. He also looked good there for the u23's.
Have slated him on this forum for the past 6 years when he played as a forward/donkey, but all credit to him on making this shift a winner.
Considering the recent change of position, teams might see good upswing potential in him.

List of 141 names, Billingsley I think is the sole Kiwi.
Tipped to be picked up somewhere in first 1-2 rounds, 9th Jan USA time.
Rounds 3-4 on 13th Jan.
18th pick in first round. Will join Boxall at Minnesota.
Deserves his own topic now:
In the next years, may we expect to have more Kiwis in the Draft?
There are also some Pacific Islanders there in the US College Soccer System.
Varies from year to year.
No Kiwis in the Draft for 2019 from memory
3 drafted initially in 2018 (Collier, Cory Brown and Stuart Houltesen?). I think Collier was the lowest pick but only one of those 3 still in pro football.
Kip Colvey either in 2016 or 2017, now retired.
Would have been two this year if Bell made himself available.

Seems like a lot have headed over in the last few years, plenty from Ole/WeeNix alone. There must be a good number coming through the system.

While it is not the greatest pathway to a professional career (it takes someone special like Joe Bell to really make it work) there are a few players worth keeping an eye on.
Connor Probert is one other 2019 senior who has a bit of potential, but he didn’t really kick on during the season just gone as much as he would have hoped after a breakout year in 2018. He has been training/trialling with MLS teams.
Goalkeeper Marcel Kampman joined Bell, Noah Billingsley, Alex Greive, and Sebastian Schacht in making a United Soccer Coaches’ all-region team in 2019, and deserves a mention as well.
Looking at 2020 seniors, there’sunder-23/20/17 international centre back Hunter Ashworth, who might even be looking at his future options right now, as he tries to secure a place in the OlyWhites for Tokyo, and Probert’s team-mate, Greive, an attacking midfielder who made United Soccer Coaches’ all-north region third team in 2019. Greive has also been training/trialling with MLS teams.
Schacht, also an AM, is the one 2021 senior I have on my radar – he made United Soccer Coaches’ all-west region second team in 2019.
As for 2022 seniors, players who have only just finish their first college season, AM Seth Clark, CB Boyd Curry, AM Willem Ebbinge, and AM Kieran Richards would be four to keep an eye on. Clark is an under-23 international; Curry and Ebbinge are both under-20/17 internationals already and are likely to be involved in the 2021 Fifa Under-20 World Cup campaign; Richards was an under-17 international in 2017.
Under-17 international forward Jesse Randall is one of two 2002-born players to have received regular playing time in the current national league season (for Tasman United) and is set to join North Kentucky University (where Probert and Greive are; the coach is former under-23 international Stu Riddle) in early 2021, making him a 2024 senior.

I would think a few more from the team will be USA bound, with many in the FFDP. Some may also be seeking pro opportunities.

Didn't see this posted, but Kiwi Oscar Ramsay has signed for Charlotte Independence in the USL Championship straight out of college. Great level for him
Phoenix Reserves defender Ronan Wynne has committed to the University of Denver, which means he’ll land in the same city at his brother Deklan, who is still playing for Colorado Rapids.
