Kiwis at US Colleges
Anyways, bloody stoked about Boxall! Glad to have a Kiwi at the Whitecaps!
"He's a physical presence," Soehn said. "He plays big.
"I don't think he had the greatest combine, but when you watch him in his college games, he did very well. The difficult part is, when guys go to the combine, they will have been off two or three months. They are probably not the same as they were at the end of the season."

Abris I think that website is incorrect. The Purcell playing for Caledonia is Kemron Purcell:

Another Kiwi in the US. Ex NZ under 19 schoolboy? Looks to be eligible for the under 20 world cup as well.
No official website release but its noted on his twitter page. nz_maka2011-06-01 10:44:31

It's a typo. Both those websites are wrong: http://www.ttproleague.com/index.php?option=com_joomleague&func=showPlayer&p=8&pid=122&Itemid=52

In an interesting quirk, he became the first freshman to score WVUs first home goal of the season since former All White and one time Hawkes Bay United teammate Jarrod Smith who recommended Bevin to school scouts achieved the feat in 2003.
As with Adam Smith, 3 goals, 3 assists.
The more kids we get in to the bigger colleges the higher the chances of them ending up in MLS etc. The only way we'll get them in to those higher colleges is through A) better grass roots coaching so the talent is good and B) getting them in the shop window (world cups etc). At the moment of the kids we're sending over, how many are at the top end?
Another issue which may be causing issues is the work permit/visa thing. Theres a limit to how long they can be over there, maybe thats an issue when it comes to a pro contract...
Still in the US, Andy Bevin continued his run-of-form for West Virginia University scoring twice in a 4-1 win over non-conference team Richmond.
The under-20 international now has five goals in six games for the Mountaineers.
