Almost all (maybe all) of the successful MLS expansion bids, have been completely separate to existing USL clubs in the same city.

Hopefully Adams can get another crack at the MLS somewhere, though sounds like he was at fault for Seattle's first goal - and first & foremost he is a defender. 30 metre rocket goals ain't likely to be his ticket to the next tier.

Interesting link in that article between likely owners of a new San Diego MLS franchise, 'Right to Dream' charity in Ghana & Nordsjælland FC who are currently gunning to win only their 2nd Superliga title. Nordsjælland are based in Farum a Danish small city in North Zealand. Their ground the 'Right to Dream Stadium'. They have 7 young West African guys in their squad.

Maybe someone can convince these rich business types to invest in a small club in New Zealand. Nix would happily sign a couple of promising Ghanese kids I'm sure for a $10M investment!
