If he is playing well at a good level then yes should be under consideration.

Fact was shark at Nix 2 years ago, is now irrelevant.

I just don't think he's good enough for the AWs. He'd need to do "a Boyd" in South Korea for at least a season before we even contemplate calling him up imho.

and given the India games (if they come off) will be more about developing players, I'd rather they took someone like McCowatt

His touch has improved alond with his option taking... his finishing remains pants.

Would add value to a team which relies on counter attacks to score goals.

Why not take them both? He's playing well, seemingly, in the top Korean league which feels like it's a 'higher' level of comp than the A-League. Without Boyd, there are places up for grabs until he decides to give the AWs another go. Rojas is so up and down (and may want a rest after his Herenveen season) , there's no harm in looking at options. 

Could have Kosta on one side of Wood, and either Appiah or McCowatt on the other side (with one on the bench). 

players like Appiah do not drastically improve over the course of half a season. 

He was rubbish with WSW, rubbish with us  rubbish with CCM and I would be fairoy safe in saying he will be not much better than rubbish in Korea.

Can he be considered a flop... he's been playing professionally for 6 years now.

Was / Is Dan Keat an example of success, 10 years in middling Euro leagues at best, Musa whose played the majority of his career at USL and had various stints in and out as an amatuer.

At what point is he a success... Kosta has had just as many in the same time.

He is a NZ eligible player starting in the K-League, that surely is enough for Fritz to at least bring him into a training camp to have a look at him in person. He couldn't be any worse than Dyer/Prelevic, who got call ups from much lower levels.

Appiah wasn't rubbish for CCM. He was at least a-league quality.

One thing I have learnt in many years involvement in the game is that if you can not control a bag of wet cement  when you are 16 or 17, things are very unlikely to get a whole lot better as you get older. Yes he has pace, but  that does not last forever and when that starts to fade what will he have?

Maybe he will end up getting a run with the national side, it seems to be the way things happen nowadays, instead of a coach looking at players, they simply give them a cap in some meaningless game, but seriously is he the sort of player you think will be a success at All Whites level? Or is hies unique style of play the way you would like to see the All Whites follow?

He has scored two goals in close to 100 professional games, and given he is hardly a prolific supplier of "assists"  I just simply think the All Whites have many many better options available at the moment

I can't argue with that, I wouldn't know where to start. I simply can't understand your reasoning at all.

The important question then is what was the basis for his signing and selection in Korea. Why did that guy on twitter who said he was ddoing ok say that?

We are all just amateur arm chair critics. 

Surely professional coaches who see Appiah day in day out, are in a better position to judge his ability than any of us?!

Based on his coaches continually starting him in the K league - admittedly in a team that is struggling - is a no brainer must currently be in AWs reckoning. 

why do we have this idea that if a player is playing overseas he must be good enough for the All Whites?

How much better is the K-League than the A-League? (if it is) If he'd gone to China or the MLS then people would have a point

he's a winger who has only scored twice in nearly 100 games - only Sarpong had a similar record to that

If he'd been good enough he would have been called up by now (especially when Anfony was giving caps to everyone)

Isn't the k league also better than MLS and the Chinese super league?

don't know thats why I was asking, all the stuff I've been able to find on best leagues in the world or ranking of leagues seems to be very european based (as you'd expect) although MLS gets in a few lists and I reckon that that is probably higher than K-League

K-League and J-League are the best Asian leagues by a long way.

Anyway, not unheard of that players become much better in a different environment. Good luck to him.
