He did some decent things, but was not involved a lot. Partly about the victory just getting swamped and not finding him but he also needs to go looking for the ball a bit. I actually thought he should have been shifted into a central role in second half to try and have more ball and influence on the game.

If you haven't seen the Rojas goals from the weekend you should do so. Both were very high quality. Hope he can do this for NZ.

Good to see him come back into some form. Looked sharp as did the rest of MV.

One thing you have to say about they Aleague is it really is a competative league with all teams seemingly going through winning and losing streaks (minus Perth and Welly this year)

So 2 years on Marco has played exactly the same number of A-League finals games that he would have had he stayed at the Nix (2). Seems worth it.

I wonder if he has now played his last game for the Victory?

He's already said he's playing the Liverpool game but I'm not so sure. Does he need another year?

Good musical score.

The last 90 seconds he looked class, before that nothing special, just quick.

Johnny Warren Medal for Player of the year. Twice as many points as ADP

also "young player of the year"

Personally thought Wee Mac had a better year (he was third in the rankings ) but probably needs to score more goals to become more visible.

Anyway, well done Judas!

McGlinchey was 4th.

Marco is the first player to win young player & Johnny Warren medal since Mark Viduka.

I have no issues with Marco winning this. He started the season strong and tapered off. Wee Mac started quietly and finished strong. I guess when you think headlines generated, he definitely did and hype is and attention is what people remember.

The Johnny Warren medal is done on the 3,2,1 voting system right?

Marco was always going to win under that system because he had by far the most outstanding performances of anyone in the a-league. The system doesn't penalize you for having quiet or bad games. He is an exceptional player but does need to work on his game when it isn't "happening" for him. Becoming a bit more tenacious on defence and for loose ball would help. Also some gymwork to become slightly less easy to push off the ball. Only things keeping him out of a high level european league at the moment.

Yeah it it done at 3 different times of the year. I assume after each full round of games.  So if you play well in the games leading up to ach of the vote, it probably helps you a lot.

Agree with this.

Deserving winner of the medal Johnny Warren imo. When Marco played well, he absolutely controlled the entire game. He didn't do that every week, but if he did, he wouldn't be in the A-League. Deserves credit where credit is due and here's hoping he can kick on from this.

There aren't "plenty" of players of Marco's size the the top european leagues. I suspect the player you mention is quite a bit bigger and stronger, and his size would be seen as a weakness. I'm not saying he should go crazy with upper body work, but packing on a bit of muscle, particularly on the legs, wouldn't hurt.

That would slow him down considerably, with all due respect there are other areas that he could work on. So what if he gets pushed off the ball, not everyone should aim to become Heskey in that aspect. A lot of the time when he does get pushed off the ball he gets a free kick anyway!

If I was looking at areas that Marco should work on (and what the fuck do I know) he has the front part of the field sussed. He is quick, makes good passes and has a deft touch. How does he fair in the back half of the pitch. That's what I would be asking of him and perhaps a little more work rate in that respects. He is fit as hell so could he apply himself to more work in the back half of the field and not lose his zing up front? Just questions...

Is Marco smaller than Messi.

Messi is pretty tiny - a little bulkier but he is older with many nore gym session under him, but taller.

That would surprise me.

We should not go down this road.

Some of the best player ever are not much different to Marco.

Maradona, Romario,Best, Lahm , Xavi and  Stiles are just a few that come to mind. I'll bet there are heaps more.

Tends to go hand in hand.

When developing strength you first tone and then you put on mass / muscle. No body saying he needs to go crazy and start looking like a mini hulk, but been a bit stronger on the ball would help any player.

Would you tell a player not to do dynamic stretches etc or work on his agility... same thing here. Been in good physical condition (which includes strength, conditioning and agility) prevents injury and prolongs careers.

Fitness coaches do more than just make people run.

Germany or Holland would probably suit him best.

Surprised there havent been any spanish links - seeing as he can already speak the language. Guess ecconomy has something to do with that.

Good move for Marco to go to Germany. Very good standard of football. Fantastic supporters. From what I have seen many of the clubs  play a very quick, highly technical style of football. When you consider that Robbie Kruse from Australia is playing well there, regularly starting, scoring and setting up goals then Marco should have not to many problems. Rojas > Kruse IMO. It will probably take him a season to get used to the style of play and the culture but after that he should be fine.

As for the physicality, Marco should not have a problem. They will work on his physical conditioning. In some ways the A-League is a rougher tougher league. Bundisleague is tough but the refereeing is much better and players get better protection from the officials. Can't see his size being an issue. Ribery at Bayern is a small player and he is a star there.
