............they (RS) will have to go through Champions League qualifiers because Serbia’s coefficient has been damaged enough that there’s no more automatic group stage entry... largely because of how much Red Star themselves have underperformed in the continental stuff these past several years.

Stamenic appeared in 27 of those (Serbian) league games (plus eight more in other comps, including four UCL appearances). One goal in the SuperLiga. One goal in the Champions League. Eight combined yellow cards. He had a couple of stints on the outer but overall he played way more than expected in year one – this being easily his most prominent season as a senior pro. He’s only just getting started.

From a footballing perspective his move to Serbia never seemed to make much sense (though I can see why from a family perspective). So I would love to see this Coventry move materialise. They finished 9th in the Championship last season. If he can hack it in the Championship that would be a huge personal achievement for him, and great for the All Whites too.

A €5 million fee is incredible business from Crvena zvezda too, who got him on a free transfer from FC Copenhagen.

Good move all round. Championship is an excellent level for the lad. Love it.

If I've worked out the figures correctly - $308,000 NZD coming Western Suburbs way.

5% of the transfer fee (as the solidarity payment paid to all clubs between 12-23) from $8,800,000 NZD is $440,000.

$44,000 per year, and he was there from 2014-2020 (roughly - I haven't got exact timelines).

= A very good day for Olé.

Coventry is probs a perfect move for him in the Championship they're gonna be pushing for playoffs next season were a bit unlucky to miss out this year after an awful start to the season and needing to replace Gyokeres. But they've already used a lot of that money to invest in some good younger players and looks like continuing to do that with Stamenic. They should be lined up for more money from Gyokeres as it seems hes gonna get a massive money move to a big club this summer window.

Hilarious looking at the Coventry forum about this guy. They seem amazed that their little club is good enough to get him and are reassuring themselves that it’s not just a rumour by quoting our esteemed football pundits like Piney about the deal, who are just regurgitating the initial rumour 😂😂😂

We have a few more players we wouldn’t mind playing in the championship if you would like them Coventry 😂

That fee, by the way, would make him the second most expensive kiwi footballer ever, surpassing the £3.8m fee that West Ham paid for Winston Reid once upon a time (that works out to around €4.5m based on the current conversion rates). You can have three guesses as to who number one is and if you guess Chris Wood three times then you’re correct - he’s gone for at least triple this fee on three separate occasions. Leeds to Burnley (£15m), Burnley to Newcastle (£25m), and Newcastle to Nottingham Forest (£15m). That Premier League money is wild, mate.
