FC Copenhagen (8th) travel to Lyngby (10th) in Danish Superliga.
FCK will have half a distracted eye on their do or die 2nd leg UCL playoff, in Turkey next week.

Lyngby actually play Helsingor in a Danish Cup tie next week.
FCK won 3-0, with two goals to Viktor Claesson and one to Pep Biel.

No Stamenic in the matchday squad once again though. Seems the Superliga only has nine-man benches compared to 12 allowed in UEFA competition, so that possibly explains his exclusion. It's a bit strange to give him a run in a tight UCL playoff match if he was deemed not strong enough for a 20-man squad, though it looks like the player he replaced went off injured (albeit was fit to start today).

He's too old for U19s, so he could get stuck in the old 'Matt Henry conundrum' (for any cricket fans), in that he's too good to let go, but not yet good enough to break in to the team, so he ends up not playing anywhere. It's not like Thorup is averse to playing young players, as six of the players used (four of whom started) are younger than Stamenic. It could just be a case of being patient, and having to wait for an injury to get a shot, but minutes are paramount and he only has 54 through seven FCK matches this season.

Matty Ryan keeps a clean sheet as FCK manage a 0-0 draw in Turkey.
They are in to the UCL group stages!

We await the draw

Stamenic didn’t get on, and will likely need some injuries amongst the FCK squad to see any action in the UCL pool games. Still is going to be a great experience for him

Believe the UCL games are going to be fast and furious with the World Cup this year. Hopefully also means some Danish league action for him as they rotate and focus on the UCL

Auckland will rise once more

Awesome group that Def beatable teams there for them.

Got on in the 76th min (2-0) in a 3-1 loss

Copenhagen are done for the transfer window - despite selling midfielder Jens Stage, they haven't signed a single new midfielder this window, with Stamenic expected to be the first DM off the bench. Awesome stuff, Copenhagen fans aren't too pleased but shows the immense trust placed in him by coach Jess Thorup

been waiting for him to get a start. so many teams need help in his position. got potential to play as an 8 but think could be a great 6 or even an impressive CB.

FCK with a 1-0 win. Stamenic an unused sub. Matt Ryan in goal

A taste of the big time for Stamenic tomorrow if just watching from the pine.
FCK travel to Borussia Dortmund and it's 81,000 fans at the Signal-Iduna-Park, in the UCL.

Thought I read somewhere he wasn't picked as part of the UCL squad.
There were lots of facts about squad criteria, min number of home based players etc. Because he has been out mostly on loan last few years, as a result Stamenic didn't make the cut.

Oh fudge that, that's absolutely shocking. I'm sure Marko's furious

edit: checked the UCL website, and Marko's on the B-list?

That news truly sucks.
06 Sep 07:53
Phew. He's on the squad list on the UEFA website, and has been named in their 23-man squad to take on Dortmund tonight.

Gets a start as FCK juggle UCL and the Superliga. Off at 84 mins (1-1) in unfortunately a 2-1 loss. Matt Ryan in goal

Another Socceroo, Joel King an unused sub for OB.

57' now. Stamenic starting and looking more than at home in the Champions League against La Liga opponents. Getting forward a lot, often attacking crosses from wide, but definitely one of the deeper midfielders on defense and in build up play.

Copenhagen giving a very good account of themselves and Marko's going toe to toe with Isco and Rakitic in the Sevilla team and looks like he belongs. Incredible for a 20 year old Kiwi.

Valley FC til I die?

Ended 0-0, 90 for Marko and I expect he'll get a few more 90s after that.

The kids just played 90 mins in the champions league kind of a big deal. How is Marco gettng an everyday assist get more love then this on the forum?

Quite right.
Thought Marco was excellent vs Costa Rica, and its great to see him play for a full match in the Champions League. I think he's got the potential to be a real player. Looking forward to seeing him vs Aussie.

(Marko) Stamenic got 10 mins only off the bench against the Ticos, I thought he was a bit average. Made an unnecessary foul late on, enabling CR to kill another minute on the clock. Put it down to over enthusiam to do something in his late cameo. And of course he had a nervous 1st half against Peru getting hauled at HT for Lewis, which seemed to improve the AWs.

But all good lerarning stuff for him, in high pressure big matches. He's only 20! Playing CL pub football 2 years ago. It will be good, mixed with bad for awhile yet. But he's obviously real quality & has an exciting future.

I thought he showed real energy and class in those 10 mins, and indicated to me he deserved much more time.
It's a shame Thomas and Singh are forever knackered. But a midfield of Bell - Stamenic - Garbett is something we can hang our hats on for 2026.
18 Sep 23:28
Didn't have a great game today, gave away a handball for Midtjyllands' first penalty, was okay from there on in a totally frantic game but didn't create much and FCK continued to get caught on the counter.

I, and many others, thought he was phenomenal...

Many fans on Twitter calling him MOTM, most others calling him a nailed-on starter from here. Sharpest game I've seen him play at this level by a long way, looks right at home. Fantastic confidence and quickness in decision-making compared to what he's shown previously. Pen was plain bad luck, had his arms dangling a little trying to block the cross.

Ended up with 85 minutes in a 2-1 loss

Two games in 4 days basically playing all 180 mins, and now a 20 hour flight to Aussie. Can see him on the bench in Brisbane. A likely starting midfield of Bell, Garbett & Howieson.

Matt Ryan was in goal for FCK, who sit a lowly 9th in the league - UCL distractions not helping no doubt.

Edit - okay lets replace Howieson with Just.

Not great news out of Copenhagen this evening as FC Copenhagen sack head coach Jess Thorup. The writing was always on the wall after a poor run of form in the Superliga.

Hopefully Stamenic is afforded the same opportunities under the new gaffer. Not too much of a stretch I'd imagine given the promotion of Jacob Neestrup - Assistant to Thorup during his reign. You never know with new managers though, they tend to have different ideas, tactics and setups. Guess we'll find out in the not to distant future.

Well- Stamenic hasn’t had much of a chance but has performed well recently when he did so hopefully !🤞

02 Oct 16:29
Starts again as as FC København take on AGF.

20 mins gone in this one 0-0.

02 Oct 22:16
Came off in the 80th min (0-0) and FCK score a min later for a 1-0 win

Matt Ryan in goal for FCK, who have a daunting UCL game, away to Man City midweek. Be great if Stamenic starts in that
02 Oct 22:36
Wouldn't that be cool!

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet
