Back from suspension. Full game, a yellow and a late goal in a 2-0 win over Bologna.
Torino's goals came at 85 and 86min. Matt got the second one apparently thanks to a goalkeeper blunder who didn't hold onto a pretty tame shot from the Kiwi.

90 minutes in a 4-3 Derby loss to Juventus last week. Apparently he was one of the best Torino players in the game.
I'm action again this morning vs Atalanta. Apparently he picked up an injury in the warm up but was able to come on after 11 minutes - highly unusual time for a substitution to be made, but it probably means the coach regards him very highly.
Unfortunately Torino suffered their 3rd consecutive loss, 2-1 to Atalanta this time.

Sofascore says he came on in the 56th minute. That's 11 mins into the second half. Sounds more likely - I notice in Italian reports they separate the minutes as first half and second half so there could be an error there? Edit: On Torino's website says he was subbed on at 11st which is second half.

It was quite confusing to be honest but I think you might be correct there.
It doesn't help that the Torino youth website has more spam than a 1994 porn site!

Do you know if he’s training with the first team, or if that kinda stuff is made public? I think the timeline originally from January, or at least by now, that’d start to be the case. He turns 20 next month, so won’t be able to keep playing U19 football next season, and senior football is of course a very big step up from youth football.

I haven't read anything about that. I know the Torino boss has been down to watch the U19s play games but haven't seen anything to indicate Matt has been training with the first team.

I think Primavera sides can play a number of overage players but that's usually reserved for first reamers who are returning from injury.
Unless something changes dramatically (OFC tourney could give Matt some real exposure), he might get loaned out next season - my bet would be to a Serie B team (as things stand).

Every Torino U19 games I've watched (they're on YouTube, though quite late at night usually) he's been head and shoulders above the rest. But Torino have a very strong squad so competition is fierce.

Yep, according to the Toro News site he’s been called up for the home match against Milan tomorrow morning. Apparently Rolando Mandragora is injured so Juric decided to give Garbett the shout. Hopefully he can get his Serie A debut

But not listed on an 11 man bench according to Soccerway

I guess regardless, shows he’s not far off the first team squad

Maybe a loan deal to Serie B team, next season

Seems like they just took the last guy to wear #18, Dennis Stojković - who left the club in 2021 - and put him on the bench. Fotmob and Google have the same issue

Appears to be have been an unused subsitute in a very valuable 0-0 draw vs high flying AC Milan.
A great opportunity for him nonetheless and hopefully a sign of things to come. He should not be in the U19s next season, but opportunities at a decent level might be few and far between if he doesn't get the chance to show his talent.

Makes match day 23 again for trip to Stadio Olimpico Rome, to play Lazio (6th).

Torino (12th), like Cacace's Empoli safe from relegation, but also out of the hunt for Euro spots etc. So hopefully makes them likely to give young players like Garbett some playing time over their last 7, Serie A games.

Garbett didn't get on. But all good experience stuff, even sitting on the bench for these big Serie A games, in these big stadia.

And yeah with Torino seemingly not having a huge amount to play for with luck over these last 6 games, (18 pts off relegation zone, and 16 pts off Euro spots) you'd hope he will get some minutes before season end.

Despite starting as a 6 to 1 dog away from home, Torino dominated, only drew to a late injury time equaliser. Inparticular they dominated midfield so Garbett is doing well to get on the bench for this team, they looked better than Lazio most of the match (hit the post, goal line clearance, etc).

Apparently had a really good game and came close to scoring. Appears to be a stand out in the Youth League. Hopefully he gets a good loan deal for next season if he can't crack the firsr team.

Played for the youth team, so unlikely to feature in Serie A Torino game verus Cacace's Empoli in a few days.

What's more blamed in this match report verus Juventus Youth, for causing a team mate to be red carded in a 4-1 loss.

On the Torino youth website they said he was the best man on the park, despite the subpar back pass. The Torino coach was also furious about the red card saying that yes, his defender could have made the tackle sooner but that he thought it was very soft. Will wait for some highlights before I weigh in.

Despite all this, I continue to maintain that Matt has been a stand out in a handy Torino youth side. The Primavera league does get a fair bit of attention in Italy/Europe, plus his exploits with the national team are bound to have caught the eye of a few scouts.
The main thing is that he gets to play first team (senior) football next year. Obviously a good fit would be important. I wonder if Serie B/2.Bubdesliga/Belgium or even a top Scandinavian league would be good for him. Not long to go until the end of the season now.

From memory it's a 3 year contract with Torino. A loan deal with a Serie B club within a few hours of Turin, somewhere in Nth Italy, would seem to make some sense. Even the Swiss League.

So the Torino coaching staff can keep a close involvement in his progress. Like Singh at JR only an hour or so away by car from Munich.

Garbett's already tried Sweden, and his club there Falkenbergs (who have now been relegated twice) sounded pretty route one type football, so yeah as always the right club fit is hugely important. Singh struggled at Nuremberg with his first loan deal.

I agree with you. The only thing I'd say, if you're going to Switzerland, go to one of the top 3 clubs. Otherwise that's proven to be a graveyard for many players... I'll keep an eye on the transfer news. He might be moved to the first team, who knows, though his appearances on the bench suggest otherwise. Still very young and yes..he must have another couple of years left on his contract.
Also he has French citizenship, I wonder if a lower Ligur 1 or decent Ligue 2 team might make a play for him

Torino (10th) lost 0-1 to Napoli (3rd). No Garbett in match day squad.

Serie A race still wide open. Really a battle between AC Milan & Inter. Napoli need both Milan sides to drop points to have a chance. That imploding loss at Cacace's Empoli will probably haunt them.

Garbett not in match day squad. Looks like he may not get that Serie A debut this season. 1 game left after today, hosting Roma.

Even with 2 wins, Torino can finish season no higher than 9th.

I was doing a bit of reading on the Torino transfer news and came across an interview with their head coach Juric. He basically laid out his plans for next seasons, who's coming, who's going, players they're looking at etc. Not much at all about their youth team and any player they'd be looking to add to the first team. This doesn't mean it won't happen but you'd think his name would have come up in the conversation if he was part of their plans.

I'll keep an eye on the news and hopefully we find something out soon. I'm not even sure he will be allowed to compete in the Primavera league next year and in any case, that's not where he needs to be. As I've said before, hopefully a Serie B or decent central European team comes knocking. He's definitely given a good account of himself in the youth team and with NZ to warrant some interest. Also from memory he has a French passport so he won't take up a foreigner spot on any European roster.
