Has started two cup games this season and is clearly the No.2, has been in virtually every match squad this season.  Just needs first choice Ryan Clarke to get injured.

Crocombe has joined Nuneaton Town on loan for the rest of the season. They play in the Conference Premier. Hopefully he'll get a few games.

Seems to have brilliant distribution and quick to get the ball moving. More like a NFL Quarterback!

Fancies himself as a bit of a sweeper keeper and has obviously been watching Manual Neuer a lot.

Very confident for a young lad. High hopes!

English based All Whites fan! Would love to watch an All White game one day.

Some NZ connections with Nuneaton and Oxford Utd:

I fondly remember one of the best import strikers to ever play in the NZ national league - Richard Hill came out from Nuneaton (then known as Nuneaton Borough) in the Conference to play for Christchurch United in 1983, my first year living in Christchurch.

The 19 year-old did very well in a strong Christchurch side, went back to England, scored 33 goals for Northampton in one season, and got signed by Graham Taylor at top tier Watford for "a Fourth Division record fee of £258,000" (that would be a million NZ $ today).

Made First Div. appearances for Watford, eventually moving to Oxford United for £260,000 when they were also a top tier team 1987-89.

Hill has been assistant coach at QPR, Reading, Aston Villa etc. and now manages Eastleigh in the Conference Premier.

So, connections between Christchurch United, Nuneaton and Oxford Utd.

Ceri Evans, the former All White, also transferred to Oxford United from Christchurch United in 1988.

ANOTHER clean sheet for Crocombe, that's 3 in 3 on loan - quite impressive considering Nuneaton had only kept 3 clean sheets all season before he came in.

...another clean sheet today for Crocombe & Nuneaton vs Torquay. Hasn't conceded in 5 (including 1 cup game) since he's gone on loan.

Highlights from the last game vs Torquay - a couple of very good saves in there.

5 clean sheets on the trot for a mid table team.

That's hugely impressive. He can't be doing his reputation any harm.

"Nuneaton have not conceded a goal in six matches - a run lasting more than 10 hours of football.

The last goal they conceded was a 31st-minute penalty on 14 February at Gateshead, where they came from behind to win, kicking off their seven-match unbeaten run."

Crocombe must be in great form.

Except he did concede a soft goal to PM John Key in Seoul last week:

Key however, would have caught him out with his move to the left...

Former Oxford number 1 Ryan Clarke signed for Northampton Town last week. Not sure if they have signed a replacement yet or whether Max will get the opportunity to stake a claim for the jersey.

Preseason will have already started so if Max wants to get that spot, being in PNG is a bad idea. In saying that, I think he'll be staying as the back up option for the time being as he's too young and inexperienced really.

don't agree.

He smashed it when on loan and had 8 or 9 clean sheets in a row making the conference team of the month etc.

First game of his month-long loan spell at Barnet in League 2 this morning.

Played the whole game in a 3-2 home win over the Teddy Sheringham - coached Stevenage.

Conceded two goals from set pieces in the air. Hard to know from the match report if he could have done better to prevent them:

Just Barnet's second win of the season.

Was at the game.  Glad Argyle won but was good to see a kiwi play.  He's coming along nicely. Arguably playing at a better level then any kiwi bar Moss.  We've got some great young kiwi keepers coming through.

Despite losing 2 nil, match report says good things about him.

AFC Wimbledon 2

Barnet 0

Lyle Taylor's early strike and a late breakaway goal for substitute Sean Rigg clinched a 2-0 victory for AFC Wimbledon and condemned Barnet to a second away defeat of the week.

Taylor pounced from close range following George Francomb's pass to give his side an early lead while Rigg confirmed the points late on as Barnet pushed for an equaliser.

The visitors could have been 2-0 down before half-time but Max Crocombe saved Francomb's penalty.

It was Barnet who had the first chance of the game in the fourth minute as John Akinde directed his shot towards goal but James Shea proved equal to it, before Taylor scored three minutes later.

Things almost got worse for the visitors when Michael Nelson conceded a penalty following a sliding tackle on Adebayo Azeez but Crocombe went to his left to save Francomb's spot-kick.

The lively Azeez was a constant threat for Wimbledon but Crocombe was impressive in goal. The keeper then went up field in the dying minutes in search of an equaliser but Rigg confirmed Wimbledon's win after a knock-on from Adebayo Akinfenwa.

Loan spell with Barnet over (pity), and now with Southport down a division in National Conference League. Started in away 1-0 win over bottom team mighty Kidderminster Harriers.

Southport 3rd from bottom.

He's only a young keeper plying his trade, but shame he's dropped a division in quality.

Southport were knocked out of the FA Cup by Northern Premier (2 leagues below) side Salford City, thanks to this spectacular effort which beat Crocombe from almost half way:

He might be young but when I went the the Oxford Plymouth game last week the Oxford fans were talking him up big time.  The way Oxford are playing they should get promoted out of League 2 along with my boys (Argyle) so that can only be good for him.

Looks like Crocombe has fallen further down the pecking order at Oxford, who've just signed another keeper. That's five on their books now.

Funny, whenever he's gone on loan he's always done well and picked up awards and clean sheets.
