On trial at Carlisle United
Max Crocombe (Burton Albion FC| England)
Sounds like Max is impressing the gaffer at Carlisle:
“However, I’ve been impressed with Max and he has attributes I like. He has good presence, he fills the goal, he has good communication and he’s trained well with Simon [Tracey]. He’s given me positive feedback about Max so I’ll find out if there’s room to potentially extend his stay with us.

Great news! It's a one year deal so hopefully he can really impress during his time there.
2 league games into Carlisle's season to date, and Crocombe warming the bench as No 2 keeper so far.
An excellent open and honest interview with Max Crocombe:
Crocombe is eligible for the Cook Islands through his grandparents. Who knew!
Unlikely he'd play for them but if he can't get games for NZ with all the other good keepers we've got floating around...

Hes still very young for a keeper. Im sure he'll be No1 at some stage down the road.
Continues his run on the bench as no 2 keeper at Carlisle
1st start for Carlisle this morning in the Football League Trophy v Blackburn Rovers U23's
Carlisle united win 2-0 against Black Burn Rovers U23's. Good to see Max with a clean sheet.

It would actually be great for NZ football If he did pick the Cooks. If Crocombe went to the Cook Islands it would show NZF they need to communicate with players or lose them. It would also raise the standard of Cook Island football and give age grade teams more competition which is needed in Oceania. Now that there are two places on offer at age grade level why not help our neighbours. The lad from Dunedin playing for Tasman may also help CI development? Go the Cooks. They want to improve.

Not true, he started for Carlisle in the same competition in a 5-4 win at Oldham on 30 Aug. Great to see him getting some game time and hopefully push Gillespie for his starting spot.

It would show NZF that they need to communicate with a guy they had with the All Whites at the ONC in June, and for 2 windows before that?
Yes Crocombe has been in enough recent AW squads to know he is on the fringes, esp as likes of Moss and Tamati Williams are on wrong side of age 30.
Pointless for him trying to play for Cook Islands.
As Gleeson has shown if you show patience being no 2 keeper at a club, if you are good enough an opportunity will eventually open up. Good luck to him.
Interesting article on Max Crocombe:
Max Crocombe hoping to make further progress after clean sheet on Carlisle Utd home debutMax Crocombe made his home debut against Blackburn U21s Crocombe says he is enjoying the coaching of Simon Tracey (right)
If Max Crocombe progresses towards a positive Brunton Park career then at least 1,253 people will be able to say they were there from the outset. A home debut in front of such a tiny crowd can still be a big occasion for a goalkeeper desperate for a chance.
As he stood between the posts at the Warwick Road End in Tuesday's first half, only a black flag, featuring the New Zealand silver fern, kept Crocombe company behind his goal. In the second half against Blackburn's Under-21s, the Waterworks End was, as usual, also vacated.
Crocombe made his third appearance of the season in the EFL Trophy, the competition in which all his appearances have been. They won 4–2 at home to Fleetwood Town. Carlisle won their group with 3 wins out of 3.
At a yet to be determined date in December, Carlisle will play in the Round of 32 at home against Mansfield Town, a fellow League 2 team who were second in Group E.
Crocombe played the full 90 today in a 2–3 home loss vs Mansfield Town in the EFL Trophy. This was the only competition in which he was competing in, so now I guess he'll need to home the starting keeper falls out of form or gets red carded.
Carlisle made the League Two promotion playoffs. At home against Exeter they only managed a 3-3 draw, with Crocombe as usual on the bench as reserve keeper.
The Cumbrians now face long bus trip to Exeter for the away leg.
Carlisle lose away leg to Exeter 2-3 and so knocked out of promotion playoffs. Exeter scored winner late at 95 mins.
Be interesting to see if Crocombe stays at the club or moves elsewhere to try and seek a starting keeper role. Regular Carlisle keeper is only aged 25
Crocombe sat on the bench for all 46 games this season without playing a minute. The life of a reserve keeper must be a frustrating one.
Nix need a new keeper ;)

Interestingly The Scum (Exeter) were in the relegation spots for over half the season, but have been one of the UK's form teams since Chirstmas time thereabouts. If they win at Wembley, it would result in a fairy tale finish straight out of Disney.

Or it could be pretty awesome if you make a decent living out of it.
My home team, AS Roma have had Bogdan Lobont as their third choice goalkeeper for about 8 years. He has played maybe 20 games.
He basically plays the first game of pre-season against a bunch of amateurs, and usually the last one as well (provided it isn't a competitive one, e.g. an exhibition match).
So he's basically getting paid to train, without even having to worry about performing on the pitch...I could get used to that!
Ah, the Winston Bogarde protocol...
Released by Carlisle.
I hear the Nix are after a keeper....
It seems like a step back for him going from League Two to Conference North. I know he wasn't playing and surely he will be a starter now but couldn't he really get a gig in a Fooball League side?
Team is owned by the likes of Giggs, Scholes Phill and Garry Neville. I am pretty sure there aim is to make the BPL one day.
Team got 4th this year and just lost in the play-off final.

Read about them in "The Bottom Corner" - a book on non-league football I recently read.
Good read.

He needs to play, and there's no way he will do that as the number two at a FL club.
Salford released there first team keeper then brought Max. Max will no doubt be the starter. Anyway what a great club to be apart off. Stadium getting larger, ex city and utd players and owned by some of footballs ex best players. Salford have a great project going on, looking foward to see whats up next.

Some shots of Max in a pre season match for Salford - he started.
